Hi, sorry for my english, I'm from Spain.

Well, I have a question... I always make my DVD with TMPGenc Plus, I think is the best for it.

I would like to know, what is the exactly bitrate I have to use to pass from divx to DVD, to get the best quality that is possible, I mean the exactly bitrate the divx neesd to get the best quality and don't make a waste of space.

    Thanx.

Hi... I don't understand how to use the calculator... but I see it's like the other calculators that depending how long is the movie, is the bitrate you have to use...

What I'm looking is maybe a program that tells the bitrate that was used to make the divx, and then I can use the same bitrate for creating the DVD, without losing quality, and not using more bitrate than neccesary.

    Thanx.

What didn't you understand? A program like Videotoolbox can check the divx bitrate but this is beside the point because there is no relation between divx and mpeg-2 bitrates. Divx uses a lower bitrate allowing higher compression. If you were to use the same bitrate for mpeg-2 the resulting video would be terrible. Don't take my word for it though. Try it and see what happens.

Put in the length of your movie.....and use the bitrate it tells you to use.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Hi teegee420... thanx for your replies. Yes, I know that divx uses more compression, so there isn't anyway to know the exactly birtarte to use?

Use as much as your disc will allow, but only if your avi's are of excellent quality. Especially if the movie is longer than 60 minutes. I'm curious why you are so concnerned with possibly wasting disc space. Is it because you want to put more movies on one DVD? If that's the case you should gain some experience by putting one film per DVD for a while and learn as much as you can from the guides on this site on how to get more playback time on your DVD's.

do as teegee420 advised you. I would get a dvd-rw to do some expeimenting. I would also cut and save app. 2-4 minutes of the video for testing to save time on encodes. After you find what works then put your video on a dvd-/+r. This will save the cost of wasting blank dvd media.

Hi everyone... thanx a lot. Yes, I'm gonna do what you said, it's the only way. I don't wanna waste space, cause right now I don't have money and I want to make a lot of movies and series in DVD, and I wanna use the less DVD+R as possible.

  9. I'm using the bitrate calculator to convert from Divx3 to Divx5. It seems to be making the file bigger than the 700MB for one CD. When I burned the file to a CD-R and try to play it on the dvd player, the movie stops before the end?

For ex: the file was 623MB before convertion and 709 after conversion (accrdg to the dvd menu screen) and it played only about 20mins on the dvd player, but seeems to be the whole thing when looking at it on the computer? !!!?? I have run the file for bad frames and it says all are good?

All I want to do is go from 3 to 5 without making any other changes to the size of the file.

Any suggestions as to what is going wrong?
    THanks,
