  1. I am looking at getting a 3CCD camera to do some live band recordings and other various crap. So far, I'm thinking I like the DCR-VX1000 the best. Has anyone used it or have any sample videos recorded with it? I don't have a lot to spend. Is there anything else that would be better than the Sony?

  2. If I had a lot of money, I'd look at JVC GR-HD1 and/or Panasonic AG-DVX100. The first only has 1 ccd. And both are a bit on the edge. But progressive and/or hidef could be fun.

Of course, I don't have either. Nor do I have a VX1000, which btw is quite an old model. I'd expect you could pick it up for < $1k. VX2100 i believe is the current model.

I do have a 3 ccd sony (TRV900), which with good light is supposed to be as good as the vx2000.

The skill of the camera man is my problem.

  3. You think the VX1000 is too old to even consider? I have about $1,000.

I'm sorry... when I first read, I thought you said you "had a lot to spend". The VX1000 seems to have been a favorite. I'm very happy with my TRV900. You should check out the low light abilities of any camera you pick. I assume the band recordings are going to be inside.

Here are some links if you have not read them yet.

Personally, I would be hard pressed to buy a cam that old for $1k. Things are changing very fast. On the other hand, the quality and field usability of the vx1000 sound to be top notch. Audio should also be much better than from a consumer type cam.
