Can someone please help me with a problem I'm experiencing when using
    MSP7 / Movie factory

I'm attempting to make DVD's from SKY episodes of Tip/Tuck (Sad I
    Know)

Using the hard disc on my Panasonic DVD recorder DMR-E100 I am
removing the commercials with the machines onboard controls then
coping them to its Ram disc.

Now using Movie factory 2, I import the DVD_RTAV directory.
once it has loaded the 3 episodes (118 min total) I find that I have
loads of scenes of various lengths

so my plan to have just three menu items + a leadin trailer gets screwed
as the MF2 menu feature makes a thumbnail 4 each scene.

is there a way around this, ie to rejoin all the scenes or am i using the wrong program

Tried quite a few combinations / variations but with no luck

    Kind regards

    Mark

  2. In my experience, the best option is to use Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.0's ability to import separate MPEG clips and join them to become one clip without re-encoding the video. (The audio will be re-encoded.)

You can have a look at the other features on the Web page at the following link:

    http://www.ulead.com/msp/runme.htm

Pricegrabber lists the program on sale for $429:

    http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=703841/search=mediastudio%20pr...a188fdebe66208

In my experience, the new "Disc Creator" Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3.0 JOIN command will create one clip out of many clips, but will re-encode both the video and audio, which will result in a quality hit.

I'm not aware of a method to make the IMPORT DVD VIDEO feature *ignore* chapter points.

When I record MPEG-2 video using my Panasonic VDR-M30 DVD-RAM/DVD-R camcorder, a new scene (or chapter point) is created each time I start and stop the camcorder.

There's no way - to my knowledge - to make the IMPORT DVD VIDEO command *ignore* these start/stop (chapter) points.

I've been able to import a single MPEG-2 file (very long) using my Toshiba D-R1 player/recorder.

But in that case, I did not use any of the recorder's built-in editing or chapter-creation capabilities.

So - in summary - if I were attempting to join many separate AC-3 MPEG-2 files, I would use Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.0.

    Ulead's less-expensive VideoStudio 7.0 ($99) product does not support AC-3 audio.

However, it will be interesting to see if AC-3 support is added to the new version 8.0 of Ulead VideoStudio - which I expect will be released within the next few months (if not sooner).

Thank you Jerry for your reply.

Went to Uleads site and downloaded the trial Ver 3 of Movie Factory

    Big improvement over Ver 2

It seems to be the ideal program for producing simple DVD's
for home use, without the need to spend many days learning a
    heavy weight like MS7 Pro.

    Two questions tho

When directly importing the DVD_TRAV directory (3.8GB on the disc)
MF3 informs us that the scenes total over 8GB ????, is there some form of conversion going on that bloats the original out, if so how to avoid.
    '-------------------
As the Trial ver seems not to support AC3, is this why there's no sound (thought MF3 would have converted it)

    Regards Mark

  4. I have never encountered a file size issue similar to the one you describe below.

I'm using the Toshiba D-R1 stand alone DVD player/recorder model:

    http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/dvr/product.asp?model=D-R1

I've successfully imported from the DVD_RTAV folder using Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3.0 "Disc Creator" version using DVD-RAM discs containing about 2gb of material.
