  2. Labels are evil, never use them!!! They just make 99% of discs playback with errors.

I only use sony and tdk dvds. I hear maxel is also good. And only burn them at the speeds they are marked, if you burn them faster there is more chances of getting errors.

I dont know how to get media codes of discs either...Im kinda new too.

  3. This is a great site with most of the information you need available to the left of you in the sidebar menu.

There is a freeware program called dvdinfo pro. This program will tell you the media code and allow you to run diagnostics on your burner and test the burned media for error codes.

Within Nero is a program that check cd speed. In one of the pull down menus is media id code.

You can search under media to find information about various brands or by media Id to see what supplier use which vendors/discs.

Many people have many opinions on dvd blanks.

I can tell you that many members are not fond of Memorex. I have burned over 600 Memorex dvd-r 4x discs without a problem. I have burned 450+ TDK dvd-r discs without a problem.

I tried the Memorex printable discs, which have the same media code as the non-printable, and I did not have a usable burn. I used Ritek/Ridata G04 printable discs and I did not have a usable burn. In each case, the dvd burner indicated a successful burn.

The non-printable TDK discs I am currently burning are media Id as ritek G04.

I have had with mixed results with Princo discs. My success rate was/is. I no longer use, was 95%. Discs with media code AN31 and AN32, sold under a variety of names, do not work well for me.

My burners are two Pioneer dvr105, a Panasonic Lf-D521, and a Panasonic set top dvd recorder-hs2
