  1. I have been using DVDiT for a long time, hate it! Time to buy a new DVD authoring software. Is there software out there that can import VOB’s? Or if not I need recommendations on the best and easiest software out there to use to authoring DVD's. The reason for the importing of VOB question is that if I'm going to buy new software I would like to have the option of importing already made DVD vob files to put into new projects. Thanks.

TMPGEnc DVD Author can import VOB files and works really well. It is my DVD authoring program of choice.

DVD-Lab can also do this and some like it more than TMPGEnc DVD Author because DVD-Lab has more choices/options when it comes to menu design BUT the program is not 100% stable if you ask me ... it has a few bugs here and there.

TMPGEnc is solid as a rock and bug free and very easy to work with especially the chapter selection process which makes it VERY easy to put a chapter EXACTLY (more-or-less) where you want it. TMPGEnc DVD Author also supports some (simple) cut editing features that I think do not exist with DVD-Lab. Last there is a new AC-3 plug-in for TMPGEnc DVD Author so when you import your own projects (such as a M2V and a MP2 or WAV audio file) it will convert the MP2/WAV to AC-3 for you. This is a better option that using BeSweet for AC-3 audio encoding.

  3. TMPGEnc DVD Author looks good! What do you use to burn the dvd after authoring. One good thing (The only good thing) about dvdit was that it authored and burned the dvd.

You can use TMPGEnc DVD Author to create an ISO image then burn it with DVD Decrypter. That is how I do it.

But TMPGEnc DVD Author also has it's own burner built-in so you don't have to use DVD Decrypter.

I just like using DVD Decrypter because I know it works well.

  5. TMPGEnc DVD Author's burner will work with Windows XP/2000. For older OS, burn the authored folders with a separate burning program.

ADOBE ENCORE DVD can import vob files!!

very feature rich authoring app give it a try.
depends what you want to do.
encore can make some impresive menus and has a lot of control over how your dvd acts.
but tmpgenc can import 1/2 and 1/4 dvd ect

  10. Have you tried to import vob's into Adobe encore. I have read that encore will not import vob's. I'm following this post because I have transfered my home movies to DVD via adobe premier and dvdit. I'm looking for options to take the vob's from the dvd's and remake with menus. I can't stand dvdit find it to be buggie.

  11. If you've figured out how to make Encore import VOBs, I'm game. I was intending to take several of the DVD+Rs I've done with my settop player and "pretty them up" with nicer menus, etc.

But I can't see anywhere that it imports any VOBs.. and it does a really mixed job of importing Quicktime/DiVX/AVI, as it doesn't want to convert/deal with size differentials.. hm.
