  1. Every .avi, .mpg etc.... that I try to convert freeze my PC - I have to press reset on my PC - sometimes I can get to 80% but most of the time it can't even get to 20% complete!!!

Ever since I upgraded to Windows XP Pro I can't convert!!
-I have all the needed codecs.
-I have tried EVERY program to change a video file to SVCD but still freezes!

Before XP I always used TMPGEnc with no problems at all!!! - I have tried the fixes in the Sticky on this forum!!!

    Any ideas?

  2. Ditch XP.

    So......

TMPGEnc Plus-2.511.51.160 - Not XP Compatible!!!!
VCD Easy - Not XP Compatible!!!!
    DVD2SVCD - Not XP Compatible!!!!

    Somehow I don't think so!!!!

I thought at first that it could be a heat problem with my Processor or Case Temperature but I went out and bought a new case, a Volcano 9 fan for my CPU and 2 Case fans but still the same thing happens!!!

I have been making my own SVCDs for years and never had a problem now I do - I have tried everything!!!!

  5. Hopefully you didn't use an upgrade version over an older windows version.

Try a clean install onto a freshly formatted drive. That cures many problems in Xp.

Over the years upgrade versions of windows have been hit or miss whether or not the computer works properly afterwards.

    Good Luck

No I didn't - Full clean install over a formatted brand new hard disk!!!

Also ever since I got my first PC in 1995 I have always Formatted my HD and re-installed windows roughly every 6 months!!!

So yr software is WinXP compatible!
    Fair enough....
Am i to assume that you ugraded yr hardware b4 yr encoding probs began?
I see in yr profile ya got a 6-7Gb HDD.... ..which is pretty old (and hopefully yr not using it as yr Boot drive, now are ya??)
In any case, if you did upgade yr hardware recently, and provided you have a proper clean winXP install, its RAM and M/B that yr gonna have to look into for errors. Encoding software takes up alot of resources and I remember having trouble with CCE crashing because of a faulty RAM chip.

    Good Luck.

I'm inclined to agree. Faulty RAM is definitely a possibility along with possible CPU overheating. Try running another CPU/RAM intensive task like a high-res 3-d game. If it freezes up on you it's probably safe to assume your problem is hardware related as opposed to OS or software.

  9. I don't know about jetway MBs. I always use ASUS in my own machines. Rock solid. I'll second the memory chip thing too.

However are you overclocking? Have you tried running with the case open? Have you (for a test) tried running with the side open and a table fan blowing onto the area of the motherboard with the CPU?

    Keep in mind that:
    a. AMDs run hotter than Intel.
    b. Overclocking runs teh CPU hotter.
    c. Most important, Encoding runs the CPU at 100% and thus at its hottest temperature for the longest time of any use of the computer.

    Good Luck
