I am having two perplexing problems with capturing from analog video (vhs tapes) to DVD. My computer has a 660 mhz processor, a 20-gig hard drive, and a Radeon all in Wonder 7000 capture card. I am pulling my signal with a composite cable through a DVD Red Pro to remove macrovision. 90% of the time I am getting good captures, but the rest of the time I am having two daunting problems. The first is horizontal "tearing" - the picture will be fine, then suddenly the picture will start pulling and tearing horizontally, also jumping, sometimes to the point that the capture card loses the signal. When this happens, the Red Pro is not indicating macrovision is present. The second problem is high brightness - as though the brighness control was turned all the way up. This is consistant throughout the capture, but only with certain source tapes. Again, the Red Pro indicates no macrovision. At times, I use a splitter and monitor the video on a small television, and these problems do not show up on the second monitor (I usually do NOT use a second monitor becasue it weakens the signal). Is there another filter besides the Red Pro I should be using to eliminate these problems? Would a video amplifier (such as used to drive several monitors from one source, like in a car with multiple screens from one player) alleviate the problem? I am a new member to this board.
