Hey Guys,
I just popped in a blank dvd+r and clicked on media info.....it says that my Media Id Code Speed is @ 2.4x....... Does it mean that I can only burn dvds at 2.4 x speed even though the plextor 708A supports 8x? Thx.

2.4 is the speed if the disc is denoted as 2.4. However it would be wise if you purchased 4X disc, mainly verbatim or TDK as their 4X burns at 8X. Just imagine burning your back-ups in under twenty minutes in lieu of fifty!
Don't stray to cheap 4X media as Plextor 708A doesn't support them, only the ones that Plextor recommends will work properly. And what if you do purchase a cheap 4X media any way? Well-- you're burning, regardless if it's 4X, will burn at 1X, which is a bitch. I found that out the hard way.
I hope i was of some help -
Hey John,
Thx for the reply. However, I the blank disc I popped in was made by TDK (which plextor supports....at least that is what the website said). Since I bought the 4x discs, shouldn't it burn at least at that speed. Why the 2.4x??
