  1. I'm using TMPGEnc Plus to convert VCD's so I can Author them onto a DVD-R it saying it will take over 7 hours is this the norm ?

    Well, as usual, that depends on your system. 7 hrs for 80 min of video to DVD format is not that far from quite OK, depending on TMPGEnc settings.
    But a VCD mpg doesn't have to be reencoded - the video part is already DVD compliant!
    All that's needed is to demux, decode audio to wav, upsample to 48 kHz, and reencode to AC3 or MP2 (or leave it as LPCM).

    No need to redo your VCD's. If you use TMPGEncAuthor, it will automatically re-encode the audio for you. I can load 6 hours of VCD files into TMPGEncAuthor and it is done in about an hour with a DVD file ready to burn.
    I have an AMD Athlon 1800.
    Then I burn with Nero.
