Ive read that ALOT of people use them, but I have also read some people saying they have had problems with it. I wanted some more opinions. For all you that use it, is it even ok to write on the discs that have no label at all on them just the cheap shiny sided ones? What are your feelings about the sharpie ink bleeding into the disc over time? Thanks for your responses.

Here we go again...
Do a forum search on this one. There's a nice long thread full of hate and discontentment regarding this subject.
For the record: DVDs are encased in a polycarbonate material that should protect them from Sharpies.

Sharpies are for Sniffing -
well, I don't know....I have better than 750 DVDs sold, all labeled with a black sharpie marker....
You can draw your own conclusion but I think I will keep using it. -
I have heard that Sharpie is actually owned by the big media companies and have secret ingredients in the markers that destroy copied DVD's over time.....

I'm afraid of the dark. I'm afraid of global warming. I'm not afraid of Sharpies. I use them. I like them.

NO!!!!
You should never use Sharpies unless you know UP from DOWN.
That is, unless you are trying to copy protect your copied DVDs. In that case, write a LOT of stuff on the shiny, coloured bottom side. Instant copy protection. You weren't gonna play them anymore, anyhow, were you?
If you have to mark them, use one of the 1/4 inch tipped ones and just write on the clear part of the inner hub.
Personally, I don't mark them, just take potluck on a Sunday afternoon when the local preacher comes over to visit. Man, he loved "Debbie Does Dallas".
Don't know why my house is the only one he visits. Drinks too much of my beer. Says sacrificial wine gives him gas. Go figure.
Hey, I'm glad he liked the movie. Can send my boy to church. Think I'll send my daughter to military academy, though. Randy old goat. Now I know why he wears a cassock.
Cheers,

My preference is TDK CD Markers. They're hard to find sometimes and I can't find them locally at all. The last ones I bought came from http://shop.pcconnection.com/
I think on CDs and DVDs they write better than a Sharpie, and they're cheaper than the last Sharpie's I bought.
I really don't see what's gained by using a Sharpie. Sure, they probably won't cause any problems. And you probably won't have a accident this year either- so why not cancel your car insurance?
