I think bad, and I know a lot of others have that sentiment.

    But YMMV.

  6. Are the shiny silver ones not G04? What do you use?

  7. The shiny ones are G04s, too. But as far as the ones I've been through, the branded Ridata matted silvers ones have less defects in them compared to the shiny silver.

That's not a bad price, if the shipping is included...

guys, here is what I had received from www.shop4tech.com on their "cheap price Ritek G04" 4x media, I guess they are real stuff, and I am very happy with what I had paid for now.

and here is the picture (they are silver shinny on top and dark purple)

  9. I've always had perfect luck with the blank shiney Ritek G04s from Shop4Tech. A couple of coasters per hundred and those were always DOH's on my part. Some have reported problems with Shop4Tech as a vendor, but I've always had good luck. But then again I have had nothing but problems with shiney G04s from Rima. Some 100% bad, some that only burn at 2x, some that start at 4x and drop to 2x. Probably depends a bit on luck of the draw, or as others suggested with timing (everyone got bad G04s about the same time so whoever you bought them from during the timeframe......). Which is really kind of a sad statement on the quality of blanks right now. One of the supposedly better brands has that kind of problems and most of the brands go downhill from there. Can't wait to finish this 100 so I can get some of the 4x TYs that are out theere now. Almost a dollar more than the G04 price you are quoting from Shop4Tech, but if they are near as good as their CDs were, money well spent in my book.

Nothing wrong with Ritek Disc at all, good media, I've used tons of the G03s and quite a few of the G04s. I suggest never taking a post word about the lowest price, goto the different places, add them to the cart, find out the shipping THEN decide for yourself who is the lowest.

BEWARE of stores that have "sales" that only ammount to a discount on their newly raised prices, this happens quite a bit.

    Now all that aside.

  11. I just tried adding this to my cart to buy it and it included a free gift of 5 DVD-RW with sleeves. Not bad. No shipping on 100 Ritek DVD-R for $85. Anyone have these yet and get the media code?

Ive used two types of G04's. First one from supermediastore.com had this media ID:
    00000000 00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 52 00 02 65 0E 0B .B...@....R..e..
    00000010 FE FF 80 00 03 52 49 54 45 4B 47 00 04 30 34 00 .....RITEKG..04.
    00000020 00 00 00 00 05 88 80 00 00 00 01 00 06 06 0F 12 ................

And they were shiny top, purple bottom. Haven't had any playback issues and I've used 25 of them and tested them on MANY players, more then half of the discs over 4GB. By no means proof of quality as batches can differ, but in my experience they are excellent.

This week I got some G04's from newegg with this Media ID:

    00000000 00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 52 00 02 76 0E 14 .B...@....R..v..
    00000010 88 9A 80 00 03 52 49 54 45 4B 47 00 04 30 34 00 .....RITEKG..04.
    00000020 00 00 00 00 05 88 80 00 00 00 01 00 06 08 12 11 ................

Matte finish, purple bottom, and the 5 I've burnt so far appear to be of the same quality as the shiny top, just a little easier for me to label with my trusty sharpie. I guess time will tell if they are as reliable but so far so good. At this point though I really don't know if there is a difference between the two apart from a few clear parts of the Media ID, but both burnt at 4X in my NEC ND-1300A.

  13. Thanks, im new to all this. Is a G04 a G04 and thats all that matters or does the rest of the media code matter? I got a 50 pk from Newegg.com and the code was
