I am currently using v1.07 firmware and can only burn Princo 4x DVD-R's at 2x. I heard that v1.0A will allow them to be burnt at 4x. Can anyone confirm this? If this is the case, are there any reliability problems burning at 4x? I would love the extra speed but not if the quality drops.
Thanks,
Chris

Well, the burner allowed them from 1.09 already. But the media itself is so crappy, it wont burn succesfully at 4x.
In my case, I can say it doesnt help to have the harddrive youre burning from 78% fragmented...
But other discs burn fine, and many others have had the same problem with Princos 1-4x discs.
The burning app will say it burned fine sometimes, but fail when you do verification or read tests.
So, simple answer: Drive allows it, but discs don't. -
The new firmware 1.0A does allow Princo 4x to burn at 4x. I've burned 15-20 at 4x with no problems at all.

oh, well then, thats the answer. Where i live (Sweden), i can only get the "1-4x" discs. and they suck.
Also im wondering what acceptabel fragmentation on the hd is? 20% ok for burning dvd? or should it be more like 5%?
