  1. I have a quick question for you guys, I hope someone can help me with this.

I have 2 avi files (XviD) with different bitrates. The two avi's are part of one movie and splitted into two files. I want to join them and convert them to DVDR.

Is this possible at all? I opened the files in GSpot and this are the results:

    AVI 1:
    XviD
    01:34:59
    576*320
    Video 884 kbs
    23,97 FPS
    Audio 138 kbs (mp3)

    AVI 2:
    XviD
    01:33:40
    576*320
    894 kbs
    23,97 FPS
    Audio 144 kbs (mp3)

I made a search in the guides and the forums but I couldnt find the usefull information. I hope anyone here can help me.

There's no need to join them. Convert them seperately then Author the resulting MPEG's.

Judging by the audio properties you posted, I believe you have a variable bitrate stream. You'll need to decompress the audio to wav and use the wav file as your audio source when converting to DVD mpeg. You may be planning to do this already but I thought I'd point it out just in case. Good luck.

I too have encountered this problem and by experiance I know its no problem to merge the two files together. I use VirtualDub to do it set video and audio to direct stream copy...

    Here is my way....
Load 1st avi in Virtualdub set the video to direct stream copy and then the audio then click on file and append avi segment click on video again to make sure that direct stream copy is still selected and then save as avi

Voila about 2min later avi file merged....

Now you can work with it.....

I do this alot with no problems....

One thing to note....I found as long as the video resolution is the same nothing else matters so both avi must be the same size in your case they are so no problems.... If they were differnt size then I would agree with the other guys and encode them seperately.
