  1. I am at my wits end with a problem I cannot find an answer for. I have registered my product and twice sent support requests via your web site and waited 2 weeks with no answer despite a promised 3-day response time. Then I waited 2 hours on-line for "live chat" support that never came.

I am using DVD Builder from Roxio 6 Basic which was supplied with my IO Magic 8x internal DVD writer. OS is Win ME.

If I create a DVD from a digital video tape source thru my Sony camcorder, and I create multiple chapters in the same movie by either letting the software automatically create a new chapter whenever it senses a transition from the digital tape OR by manually hitting start capture/stop capture, the resulting burned DVD plays fine. I can jump from chapter-to-chapter using my remote or I can FF thru the entire DVD with no problems.

But if I create a DVD from a VHS tape source routed through my camcorder I sometimes have problems. If I manually hit start capture/stop capture to create chapters in the movie USUALLY but not always, the resulting DVD will play okay.

But if I do any editing of the captured data like splitting a chapter OR if I let the software automatically create new chapters every few minutes, the resulting DVD will have all of the video on it but I cannot jump from chapter to chapter with the remote nor can I FF through chapters. If I try to either jump from chapter to chapter with the remote or FF such that it crosses a chapter line the video jumps back to the menu. So the only way to play the whole DVD is to watch it from start to end at regular speed. This occasionally happens even if I manually create all chapters and do no editing as well.

If I do a preview either before burning or after burning in Builder (with the little remote and screen button on the builder interface) Roxio says this will show exactly what the burned video will look like, and the preview works perfectly -- I can jump chapter to chapter in the preview just fine -- but not on the actual burned DVD.

Am I the only person with this problem?

Is there a way to fix it -- some adjustment on Builder I cannot find or some type of upgrade?

Please help as this is a very frustrating problem and I am wasting disks. Thank you.

  2. OK. Your post reads like an e-mail/letter that you sent to the maker of the product you are using, so I guess they did not give you an answer to your problem.

Have you tried to use RW media to test your projects, so that you don't waste discs?

Have you tried to use other programs to create your DVDs? You can take a look in the Tools section for a lot of great freeware and trialware and see what works for you.

You are correct, Roxio will not give me support since I did not buy the program from them, and their forum folks cannot seem to answer, either. I/O Magic -- maker of the burner, provided the software, and say they offer free tech support but 3 times I have submitted tech support requests and have been totally ignored, and I waited for online chat support for 2 hours and never got to chat with anyone -- I was "on hold" the whole time. So, I'm not happy with either company. AWFUL support!

I have not tried other software. I am not a computer expert by far, especially in this DVD stuff which is completely new to me and I am concerned about how other software might interfere with the Roxio stuff which does a good job on CD burning and DVD data burning, etc. I had hoped a name-brand product on it's 6th version would WORK! Silly me.

What software would you suggest in the freeware/trialware? Will this software do it all -- i.e. allow me to "capture" the video from my camcorder, allow me to arrange/edit it, and then burn the DVD?

Sorry if these questions seem stupid, but this is all new to me.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate any help you or others can offer.
