  1. I started ripping Star Trek Enterprise episodes off my Dish Network PVR 7200. I've followed a guide that I found on the net. (Sorry, I can't post the URL because Yahoo! Groups won't allow me to log in. It's call Silent Bob's dishrip guide)

Anyway. I get the video edited and the audio is syncing perfectly in mpeg2vcr. I don't want to burn this to VCD, SVCD, or DVD. I want to keep it in a watchable format on my hard drive. I save the mpg file as mpeg-2 as instructed but PowerDVD plays the video fast with popping for audio. WMP9 has to download a codec off the net, plays the video fine but has no audio.

I'm a complete newbie to this. I have the final product close but I'm not sure where to go next. mpeg2vcr's playback looks fantastic (albeit grainy). That's what I want. I'm trying to replicate what I have in mpeg2vcr to divx or xvid.

Sorry again for my ignorance but any help would be appreciated. I spent 4 hours on the net looking for solutions but came up empty handed.

One thing I'm not clear on is whether the mpeg you created with MPEG2 VCR plays fine or not. It could be just Power DVD that's giving you problems. Try using another DVD software player like WinDVD or Nero Showtime if you have Nero 6 Ultra installed.

The point here is that you want to make sure you have a good file before you try converting to another format. Once you do that, you can find a decent mpeg to Divx guide here. It's a little old(talks about Divx4 still) but the information contained therein is still relavent. By the way, I convert shows to Divx quite a bit, including Star Trek Enterprise(converted last night's ep overnight).
