  1. Suddenly my Ritek GO4 DVD-R discs will not Burn anymore. I keep getting failures. The discs show up as DVD-R with the correct capacity but fail after the lead-in is written. Im about half way through a 2 month old 50pack of Riteks that worked perfectly until today when I made 3 coasters in a row Is it my drive? Nero? or the DVD-R discs? Is there anyway to test with out sacrificing another DVD-R disc?

DVD+RW and CDR Burn fine!!! I burned the same project on a DVD+RW without issue.

    DVD Decryptor 3.20
    DVD Shrink 3.1.5
    Nero Express 5.5..

    Hi Machineman,

If you have 2 or 3 failed in a row, then stop burning, reboot your system and retry it. It will refresh your system. If it still fail againn, it may be the media.
Because the software you use it daily already, make sure you did not update software, if you just up date and it have like that then you know what to do , BTW did you update DVD Shrik to 3.17 beta, or using 3.16 ? I heard 3.16 have some problem.
Let me know what you found out.
    Cheers,

You could also try uninstalling/reinstalling your IDE controllers, and upgrading the firmware. No guarantee that this will fix it, but it won't hurt to try.

  4. not to be funny--try another brand of media. I had the same problem with Ridata/Ritek printalbe G04s--I switched to a tdk branded G04 and it worked fine.

  5. Update:
I installed DVD shrink 3.1.7 beta5 along with a reboot and it works now.
Not sure if it was the reboot or the DVD shrink but I suspect rebooting solved the problem and the issue was with the Nero burning engine.

  6. Nero sometimes needs a good reboot. Even with audio CDs.

  8. I have been running hacked firmware 1.07 to unlock the rip speed.

  9. Before you start tearing your already proven software/hardware apart, I suggest you go to nearest office supply store and buy a 5 pack of jewel case media (TDK, Fuji).

I haven't found any bulk Ritek G04's that work for me.

I'm using same burner/firmware as you (and a liteon 451s too).

  10. i highly doubt its the media with a fail after the lead-in.
more than likely a hardware or software fault

  11. MeTaL, you dare question my authoritay.

I weren't thinking rightly.... although I have trouble with Riteks, they burn/play well in my recorders. Most Riteks I've tested were thin on the outside (leadout)...the inner usually is solid (low PI/PO). I still wouldn't touch your software if it worked well previously. I would check that the drive is in DMA mode and defrag my harddrive(s) first. If that doesn't work...then eliminate media as the possible culprit.

Its not a thin issue its a disk wobble issue. The disk has more wobble on the OD(outer diameter) and the drive has a harder time making power adjustments when the surface of the media it is writing to is moving vertically. Thats why it is sometimes hit and miss with the same media MFG type.

    Makes sense....thanks for correction.

either way, hurts compatibility for my older players.

Sorry, MM, didn't mean to beat this one to death...missed your "fixed it" post.

Maybe I missed it but I don't think anyone mentioned running a READ ERROR test after the burn is done.

This can be done with DVDInfoPro available as adware freeware or adfree payware.

You could burn a DVD disc and think all is well but actually it could be riddled with read errors so doing that test is key!
