$44.95 3Mbit/s down 768kb/s up. They just changed it from 2Mbit/s 384kb/s without a price increase. USA

Wish I had Optium Online (8Mbit/s down 1Mbit/s Up, but usually higher). Check www.broadbandreports.com for network tweaks and tests.

http://atl.speakeasy.net/ for a speed test (you need Java)

It isn't that cheap everywhere. Where I live, there are 3 broadband cable companies and 5 major DSL providers. More competition, less of a price. We happen to be a test market for WOW (Wild Out West) and Time Warner. I'm waiting for WOW to roll their Fiber Networked Neighborhood plan. Suposed to see 10Mbit/s connections, but that's been talked about for a little over a year now.

Out in the boonies, they usually charge 2x for 1/4 the speed. As the first poster stated (not claiming he's in the boonies ) $50/month for 512kb/s isn't uncommon. It just depends on location. The US has a mandate coming soon, that every person has to have access to high speed internet. With Direct TV, anybody can get 512kb/s just about anywhere.

Yahoo SBC/Global is also a nationwide(US) DSL carrier, offering everyone the same plan, as long as they are close enough to their telco. Earthlink has a somewhat the same offering, by licensing cable networks and DSL packages in different states.

  18. 3Mbps down and 256Kbps up, $42.95/month US. Adelphia Cable. Unfortunately the only one in my area to offer cable connection and the worse cable company in the history of mankind (dating back to the stone age methinks). It drops connection every few minutes and Adelphia keeps trying to say there is no problem. I'll probably have to ditch it soon. 8 monthes of dropped signals and no fixes yet. Just say no to Adelphia.

3 Gb per month limit on my cable unlimited plan

    about $70

    will post the speed later

    Q. What is speed limiting?

    A. When you exceed 100% of your plan's monthly Data Allowance your service will be speed limited to the maximum speed of a 28.8 kbps dial up modem. In practice this will be between 20 kbps and 28.8 kbps until the 1st of the next calendar month (at which point your Data Allowance will be reset).
