  1. OK! I've been going almost non-stop for the last couple of days trying to solve this problem.

    I WANT:
to create a DIVX with permanent subtitles. I ALREADY have the non-subbed DIVX-file (AVI), and the subs I have downloaded from the internet (*.SRT).

How can I make these subtitles permanent on the divx, WITHOUT having to re-encode my divx?

    WHY?
I have a stand-alone player, which plays divx very well. It does not support subtitles though, so they have to be permanent.

I can do it with both VIRTUAL DUB (subtitle filer) and Gordian knot (using vobsub, converting my SRT file to Vobsub using Maestro/son2vobsub). But this involves a divx-encoding - and therefore loss of quality!

    SO!?
Is there any way of adding these subs ONTO the existing divx-file? (perhaps 'under' the image in a black space or something) without re-encoding??

    help very appreciated...

    ...balle.

    *bump*

i have the exact same problem.
i want to add subs to an avi using 'direct stream copy' rather than 'full processing mode' + filter

please - is there a way of doing this?

    thanks,
    dave.

no, adding permanent subs requires reencoding.

  4. I used Xilisoft DVD & it lets you go from a dvd to vcd or avi with subs displayed.
