  1. I currently us the software that came with the card. I also have Ulead Media Studio Pro 6.0 but haven't tried capturing with it. I run into problems trying to capture MPEG 2 greater than 480X480. Approx. 13-18% dropped frames.

What programs do you all find work the best? I'm hoping for SVCD or XSVCD direct MPEG 2 capture.

    Thanks,

  2. I use AVI_IO (which I just registered and is a great program) to capture on an Intel 1GHZ machine with 256mb RAM 34GB HD and an ATI AIW Radeon. I have tested capturing up 720x480, uncompressed, 29.97 fps and get no frame drops. So, I would recommend AVI_IO, without question.

  3. Though I use an ATI AIW 128 Pro and not a Radeon, I use VirtualDub. It's free and I don't drop frames either, I have an AMD 900 with 256 Megs of Ram and things are great. I haven't tried AVI_IO but I have no interest since VirtualDub works so nicely for me.

  4. mikewg-
Do you capture straight to AVI or Mpeg 2? And what size?
I ask bx my ultimate goal is XSVCD.

    Thanks,

  5. I capture with AVI_IO at 720X480, using the PicVideo or Huffyuv codec, usually drop no more than 2-3 frames per hour of capture, and then encode to X(S)VCD with TMPGEnc. I don't particulary care for MMC to do the captures.

  6. Well, I downloaded AVI_OI but can't find a way to get started. Says I need to choose "Video Format First".

Is there a "How to" article in VCDhelp?

    Thanks,

  7. First of all you may need to get the WDM > VFW wrapper at http://faq.arstechnica.com/?i=4. After you unzip them into a folder right click on the inf file and click on install. After installing it, start AVI_IO and then choose the device, choose the device that refers to the WDM > VFW wrapper (I'm at work right now so I don't recall the exact device title). Then go through the setup. Refering to other posts and "HOW TO" guides should get you going in the right direction.
This will give you an AVI file that you can encode with TMPGEnc to create your SVCDs.

    Hope this helps.
