I keep trying to burn dvd's from the mpeg2 muxed files from a replay tv unit for personal back up purposes. Every time i try to burn a file to a dvd it tells me that the stream is incomplete. I have demuxed the file and reintegrated the sound and movie tracks I have tried several conversion programs and nothing seems to work. I have both QT pro and the mpeg2 codec, but I simply cannot get the dvds to burn. Any ideas?

I don't really understand what you are trying to burn. Is it a DVD with a DVD-Video structure or just a data DVD with mpeg files to play on your PC?
If it is the former it will help to know what authoring application you're using and if the application creates the DVD structure (the VIDEO_TS folder) without problems. If so, can you play the DVD with a software player?
If it's the latter, what burning application are you using and what type of DVDs - write-once or re-writeable? If re-writeable, make sure they're properly erased if you've used them before. To simply burn a file to a DVD, it's irrelevant what codec you have or if you muxed or encoded the file to any particular standard. Your PC treats an mpeg file as any other file. -
What I am doing is taking files of of a DVR and then trying to burn them to DVD-R single write. I have tried to take the file directly into toast to burn it to the dvd but during the encoding process toast says that the stream is incomplete. So I tried to convert the files to .mov files through quick time but the sound is not exported just the movie and if you try to sync the sound afterwards its slightly off. I have tried several conversion programs from version tracker like mgeg edit, export to QT, etc. I also tried to demux the files so that the sound track and movie track are separate, but this did not work either. Someone once suggested to me to cut off some of the end of the file, but I cannot find a program to do that. QT Pro won't let me, imovie doesn't support the file type, idvd doesn't like it either. All I want to do is have the files on dvd so that i may save the shows i record with out having to eat up my hard drive and so that I nay watch them on my tv and not my computer. All help is appreciated. By the way the program I am trying to use that gives me the error is Toast 6 titanium and I am running OSX.3 panther on a 17inch powerbook

couple of things....
1. are you "backing up" the dvd or are you just copying the selected file off the disk directly? (ie drag and drop)
2. what amount of info are you taking from the dvd? Single .vob? more than one? a complete title set?
3. since these files are already in "dvd" format all you would need to do is reauthor the dvd if you are pulling individual files from a dvd
its rather simple, just demux the .vob with ffmpegx or any other app you have that can do it, then use Sizzle to rebuild a valid VIDEO_TS folder of the files you pulled.
you cant just pull a file off a dvd, stick it in a folder and rename the folder as VIDEO_TS. Likewise, you cant just partially pull files off a dvd and then expect that to work either.
please give me some more input on what you are doing exactly step by step -
Galactica, what hauntedcrimson has is ReplayTV MPEG files, not a DVD. The "incomplete" error message from Toast is the same as I get with PixeDV MPEGs before I trim them in PixeDV. The error appears as Toast is checking the file.
Here are two discussion of making DVDs from ReplayTV files using MPEG2 Works:

I suggest hauntedcrimson uses MPEG2 Works to prepare his ReplayTV MPEGs. There are two options: one is ReplayTV demux and the other is creates a new MPEG file from the ReplayTV file. -
ahhhh it makes since now
I thikn i got this confused with another post i had open on ripping from a dvd.
this is what i get for posting at 1:30 am !!!!!! when im half asleep and trying to study but getting destracted!

I used mpeg2 works, problem is that after the demux the audio file was the size of all the free space on my hard drive. I know that was an error especially since the video was only 678mb. A 56 gig audio file seemed a bit much. So i had to delete and i am back to where i started. Anymore ideas?

Use "Demultiplex ReplayTV" button under "Tools" section in MPEG2 Works, not Demux MPEG...ReplayTV MPEGs are different...
Also it is a good idea to re-convert Your MPEGs, not just demux them...And Export2QT app will export Your ReplayTV files to any QT codec installed, but NOT in MPEG2 for DVD...For that type of conversion use buttons under "ReplayTV" section in latest MPEG2 Works... -
I have looked through all of mpeg2 works and i simply cannot find the option for replay tv. I looked in tools and it just talks about regular demuing, and other types of files but nothing about replay tv.
