COBOL, IMS, DB2, CICS, IMS/DC, RPG, Basic, Visual Basic, Delphi, HTML, Java, Powerbuilder, C, C++, Javascript, Japanese(read, not speak).

I've program in VB. And years ago the xBase family (dBase, dBFast, Clipper, FoxPro)...

I wanted to learn Delphi years ago. And Borland C++ but that was years ago....

Now I'm trying to learn some 3D apps (Lightwave, Wings3D, Vue D'Esprit, GMax, etc)....

If I need something and decide it's worth my time I write it or modify/automate existing software to do what I want. If I don't know how I figure it out as I go. I've written CGIs, data manipulation scripts, database applications, etc.

For people with programming experience the question often isn't "is this too complex for me to write?" so much as "is writing this software worthwhile?"

VB6/.NET VC++ assembly (motorola,x86) html, HLSL, LLSL (shaders).
Basically C++ and VB.Net is all that u need now.
I'm thinking to get into game development but first must graduate)
Funny thing is I sell computers and not program. Programming is my hobby.

Hi All

I've been using VB for the last couple of years and am now moving into C#.

As a learning project, I wanted to make an application that would rip a DVD and output an .mpg (mpeg4) file for use on my Sony Ericsson P900.

There are numerous ways to do this currently but none that I can find that will do the whole thing at once.

Even if there were, it's a good idea to write a project as you're learning...gives you a bit more focus.

Anyways, anyone ever done anything like this or point me in the right direction to start? I've no experience with writing apps to rip DVDs or encode into mpeg4...so pretty much a complete noob.

Well, my favorite language is Delphi (pascal) but you didn't include this.
All others that I've worked with are:

* cobol; rpg; c/c++; vic-basic; pet-basic; basica; vb, vba..
and many other variations of BASIC - it was my start in most programing.
