I purchased at a trade show. Hey, does yours start with H8 ??? Just curious ..I would swear thats my number but supposedly it isn't

the serial number is on the box - not the disks , and it is on your computer also - look in your registry .. do a search for vegas and/or dvd arch. and the the lic is in there -- KEY 1 is your serial number and KEY 2 is your machine ID

since you have to register on line or over the phone -- seems like it would be a good plan to keep your serial numbers handy ..

    its not a H8 , its a HB

My serial number that begins with "HB" is the DVD Architect. My Vegas begins with "J6". If the software is installed, the serial number will appear under help-about (and on the splash screen if you're quick enough to see it). That's Vegas 5 though - I'm uncertain about previous versions.

its not the serial number there -- its starts as your serial , but its your 2nd key (id) .. at least on our machines here, and what vegas people said on thier forum --

the first key -- the true serial -- is in the registry though as mentioned ..

grafitti & magic bullet can be downloaded directly .. magic bullet requires no serial and with grafitti, they emailed a serial along with the serials for dvda2 and 5

  9. Is Vegas 5 Single Computer Load & Activation? In other words, if I use Vegas on more than one computer, do I have to pay twice?

  10. Hi all,

I am new about this Vegas. So far, i have heard + learned that Vegas is very much better than any other program to edit movie (video+audio) from DV to DVD. I have used Ulead video 7.0 to transfer from digital cam to pc, edit (mainly filter for sharping+color balance), then ecode with tmpgenc, and finally author with tmpgenc as well.

Still I am not very impress with ulead filter and I still want to make my movie look as much the same as the DVD movie you rent, professional look if you meant. Will Vegas capable to meet my needs? Again, all I want is to down load vhs with digital camcorder to pc, edit for sharpness+color+add subtitle function (closed caption) and then transfer to DVD. It is clearly that Vegas is much more expensive but I am willing to pay for hi QA. Any suggestion is appreciated.

no -- not really , to do that you would have to FILM the movie the same way as the dvd's you buy/rent ..... you cant just take your home vhs or dv and make it look like a 100million dollar movie ... though it has been done with really good quality DV ...

If you film properly ,have proper lighting , etc -- then yes -- with what is included in vegas , as in fcp or AE or premiere -- you can make really "pro" movies -- in fact its done all the time..

  12. Thanks for reply.

So what you say is that garbage in-garbage out, right?

Still, will you strongly recommending Vegas to edit the movie when compare to other editing software such as virtualdub, Ulead or else?

    Again, thank for reply.

    I am sorry , I guess I wasn't paying enough attention.

What I see in the opening splash looks like what I see in ABOUT DVD

I even did a partial re-register that shows me my serial and computer id.

Copied the Product Serial xx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx and tried to purchase, no joy

so tried to re-register online. It says thats an UNKNOWN serial. DUH...If its unknown then

    1) How did I get registered to begin with (because I am registered)
    and
    2) How did I upgrade for each new release if I am not registered - you have to fill in all sorts of garbage to get the upgrades

My GUESS is that when sony took over, they did not get the WHOLE load of serials from Sonic Foundry

And also, I did search the registry ...Lots of strings of numbers for DVD arc but none that look like the supposed serial ...except one that was in HEX began with E8 i think

And still no reply from Sony whom Iwill call after work and raise HEC K ...This is no hackware, I spent a bundle on thebundle so we are not talking like a big deal over a 39.99 tool.

Okay, I am babbling now but this really sucks...

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Media Software\DVD Architect\2.0\License

is where its at now -- with 4 (i think) it was the same but it would be something like HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sonic Foundry\DVD Architect\2.0\License

except if you had the latest vegas 4.0e as your first install - then its sony ..

i'm not positive about location with Vegas4 ...

but call up customeer service -- maybe that would be the fastest -- they have a 800 number somewhere posted ...

there are 3 numbers in there -- one of them matchs my serial number

Cool ! Thank you for your patience....I have been racking my brain on this...And yup , sony has an 800 number that is good till 5pm central time.

That will teach me to get rid of things....The nerve of me getting rid of the box !!! LOL

ONE MORE QUESTION ...On yours , how many digits and do I include dashes or is there no dashes ? That way I know I am entering right....

I am after this so bad for two reasons only

    1) The ablity to save trimmed items as clips and 2) The Magic Bullet software....Other than that I could probably do alright with the vegas I have......

PS - SPECIAL NEWS - Contacted Red Giant , their magic bullet editor FULL version will be compatible with 4.0

and the #1 reason people pirate software is......

SONY can't find my serial , as such, they wont let me purchase the upgrade. I bought a LEGAL boxed set at a trade show and they can't find the number. SO I AM SCREWED.

Heres the kicker, i asked, "COULD IT be possible you lost some numbers, any computer changes in 2 years, etc"

OH NO , that could never happen.

I have been in IT industry for 24 years. Tell me NOTHING ever gets lost/overwritten etc.

Now being reasonable, I take most of the blame. I didn't save the tags/box etc. but you know what even microsoft gives you the benefit of the doubt. Especially when I am willing to plunk down 200 bucks for an upgrade.

Thats okay, what I REALLY want is MAGIC BULLET and end of may , that same 200 will buy me the full version WHICH WILL work on 4.0

By the way for VEGAS and DVD architect users, notice they waited till the new release to fix the end action....

Thats okay, I am not bitter..I will just learn premier....LOL

    Me ? No, I am out......give me a serial and prosecute me if you can prove I have sold it, that's the way;

OK, not to this topic, sorry guys....

No...It was right on topic and exactly what I was feeling. I paid good money in good faith from a vendor, box set, their stuff, they cancheck mycode (I already showed them the screen print) and they can't help me ?

So lets look at it anotherway. Lets say I have pirate software and am looking to pay 200 bucks to upgrade. You say NO , I still have my software and they are out 200 bucks. You say YES and at least you made the 200 dollar sale ....

Instead, I'll get my neice to buy the 249 version, which will satisfy what I NEED but I will lose all respect ...well...did anyway when sony bought them.

    Oh well
