  1. DVDShrink will not rip all of my DVD's(about 25%) so I use DVDDecrypter first. The ripper in v3.1.5+ is definately faster than in previous versions but DVDDecrypter is still a bit faster.

the maker said he would continue to update it for bug fixes, however no more revamps or anything of the sort.
Does this include fixing the compression system? I've tried all sorts of things with one disc, and it still creates some pretty prominent macro-blocks in distinct scenes. Oh, to have a dual-layer burner and a player that can play the discs.

I actually know of a good 2-3 methods to "copy protect" a DVD9 so it cannot be shrunk. It'll crash most shrink softwares, though not all.

I have one on my HD still because it cannot be backed up. ... yet.

    Try v.3.1.5 or v3.0b5:

Next time I try to make a backup of The Godfather, I will give 3.1.5 a try. 3.05 beta gave me a lot of headaches.

  6. Hi guys, Im new to these forums so please be gentle =)

Anyway, Ive been using DVXCopy backing up DVDs and DVDXcopy Xpress (for dual layer DVDs).

DVDXcopy express removes all features in the DVD but for one soundtrack and one subtitle set, leaving the maximum room for the movie.

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me DVDShrink is more efficient than DVDXcopy Xpress in terms of picture quality? I am assuming that there wont be since the size of the video files will dictate quality and not the program doing the compression, am I right?

    thanks.

Sorry to say it, but you're wrong. Some progs do a better job than others and the current contenders for the 'best' slot seem to be DVD2one and DVDShrink. Both have their supporters but all seem to agree that these are both head and shoulders above the competition and DVDShrink has a big advantage in that it's free.

The quality of the hardware one uses is important, too. I expect to be able to do better backups in half the time once my PC is upgraded.

No, the spec of your hardware won't affect the quality of your backups. Only the time taken to make them.

Taking it to an extreme, if it takes another couple of hours to make a backup, someone will stop doing the Deep Analysis.

There is a lot of belief that 3.05beta is the best version. I find it confusing and annoying to use, but I also find that I am less than impressed with the quality of the video file later versions produce.

3.1.7 reads to your harddrive better than 3.05beta5. 3.05beta5 is more versatile when there is a need for complicated cutting, cropping or combining different videos on your hard drives. I keep those versions in between, just in case I come up with something that 3.1.7 or 3.05beta5 cannot handle.

  14. thanks for comments guys.

i was using the program yesterday and am looking to use it to make a sampler of clips from my favorite movies (like the dts demo discs).

the problem is I cant seem to encode it using either Adobe Premier or Sonic MyDVD (which allows me to use menus).

DVDShrink can write the stuff I make but can anyone tell me of a program that I can use so that the stuff I rip using dvdshrink can be burned with menus?

What would be the point? Once you use Dd it's already decoded. You course then use dvd2one if you wanted it on one disk.

There is another program, free, dvd43, there isn't much talk about it here but it does work.

I tried the new shrink it works without giving a nero copy protection message with XP.

Did you try the final vesion of 3.1.7, not beta version! Correct me if I am wrong, DVD Decrypter is already embedded into DVD Shrink.

  17. using dvd shrink ive been able to assemble and burn highlights of all my favorite movies and put them onto one dvd.

However, I cannot make menus for them. Sonic MyDVD and Adobe Premeier will not recognize the .vob formats so these programs cant help me. Can anyone recommend me a program that can?

Also, I'd like to add fade-ins and fade-outs to my clips, can anyone recommend software for that as well?

    thanks

Sounds intresting, care to expand on the subject?
