Just alittle history. A while ago I was converting a tape of my son when he was on TV. I had dropped frames left and right, I tried several options and in the end screwed up so bad I had to re-image (not that any of us have ever done that...or at least admitted it ) any way I loaded XP (I was running 98SE). Well, all I had to say was 'left the sync issues begin.' HOLY COW. Man for three months I've been battling it. I've tried every program out there, with every setting I could grab off this forum as well as doom, no dice. But as I was testing, I thought I nipped it when I capped vid at 704x480, sound at 48000 (and some other settings obviously). No sync issues, but as soon as I dropped to halfd1 or even VCD res. it ended up like a bad foreign film with the sound so far off I felt like I had ESP .

Just curious if anyone has ever noticed this behavior before.

Just an FYI, I am through trying to deal with XP and capping. I'm going ADVC-100, was going to get the 300, but that's another story, damn chicken butts.

  2. I also spent a couple of weeks leaning the hardway with analog capture.
Went through all the standard tools and battled with all the sync and dropped frames issues 'till I discovered three programs that can realy do this well:
    1. MainConcept Standalone Mpeg encoder (has capture under "tools").
    2. EditStudio
    3. Cyberlinks PowerDirector

Its actually difficult to get the first two to drop a frame.
Powerdirector comes last just because its not quite as strong as the other two and doesn't remember AVI templates.

All based on weeks of work and reading forums and guides etc.

Still - of course I cannot say that they'll work for you with your setup.

    cheers

    maa
