I see these have entered the stores now. Does anybody have any experience with these? Are they better in terms of quality?

  2. I don't know a great deal about them. I've seen one before and noticed absolutely no difference in quality. all they do is knock out everything like extras to use more bitrate, which is unnecessary anyway. bitrate over 6Mbps isn't too noticable to begin with. pumping it up higher doesn't make it any better for the most part. they are basically dumping extras for excesive bitrates.

Hi tygrus. I have Fifth Element Super Bit DVD ( PAL ) and compared it to my friends standard version ( PAL ) and depending on the tv it was played on, the difference was obvious or there was none. Using a Loewe Xelos 81cm Wide screen ( component ) the difference is that flesh tones are more natural and the background information is smoother with very little pixilisation. Yet when played on a 68cm Panasonic CRT ( s-video ) or 60" LG Plasma ( component ) there was no difference in the two versions. Either way it is still a great movie. Kind regards Greg.

  4. I also have Fifth Element and think the Superbit transfer is wonderful. It may not be entirely noticeable, but it doesn't mean I still don't have a desire to have the best quality there is (note that the sound is also beefed up sometimes... superbit may offer a DTS track whereas the original may not). Not all superbit versions dump extras... in fact, most newer ones are labeled superbit deluxe and simply use a second DVD to carry the extras.

I have MIB2 superbit version, I think there a noticeable difference the standard version and superbit. As mentioned the quality of the tv would show the difference.

  6. "Superbit DVD" ought to be added to the glossary. My understanding is that a "superbit" DVD is just a high bitrate encode. Not sure what the minimum bitrate is to quality for the "superbit" tag, but I think it is around 7000k.

Does that mean that there might be 2-DVD sets or double-sided discs (DVD-18 ) for movies that used to be one side of one DVD? If so, is DVDShrink up to the challenge? Anyone try crunching one with shrink?
