  1. Hello,
Wondering if anybody could tell me why this is happening.

I have an AVI file, captured from my digital camcorder via firewire.
AVI file is 9 mins 30 secs long.

I convert using tmpgenc, and the output mpg2 file is about 8 mins 50 secs long. I ran tmpgenc twice, and it gave identical outputs, both 8.50 long. It is not cutting the end off, so I can only guess is it is squeezing the whole thing.

    Any comments?

  2. Hello!

Maybe the framerate is different between the AVI-file and the MPEG-file, which could result in that the movie looks shorter.

  3. Or maybe the player/tool you use to check the lenght isn't reading the time correctly. If you are making a DVD try authoring it anyway (the authoring application should fix the GOP timecode if there are any problems there), then play it with a software player from your HD and see how long it is.

Also check the source range filter in TMPGEnc. How long is the video there?

  4. Check that you are using the correct template in tmpgenc. Your options are PAL or NTSC. Make sure you choose the same standard as your camcorder uses.

  5. Hi guys,
    Thanks for the answers.
I had kind of given up on this post, did not think anyone was going to respond.

    Craig,
I always pick NTSC, so that's not an issue.

    Petar,
OK, I will try authoring and playing it.
BTW, what's the source range filter in tmpgenc? I will take a look tonight, when I get home, but I don't remember that.

    Znooky,
I am pretty sure I always use 29.97 for the framerate. Will double check though.
