have borth pioneer 107D dvd-rw and Pioneer 116 dvd-rom
I find winth the new 107 modified firmware 1.10 it can rip a dvd faster than my pioneer dvd-rom.
dvd writer 9.34 mins (average 8x)
dvd rom 16.47 mins (average 4x)
for the same 4.7gb dvd-r movie dvd.
On average what rip speeds are people getting with dvd-rom drives? Is there a way to rip faster with my dvd-rom or do newer model dvdrom drives rip faster?

You have modded firmware for your burner, see if there is modded firmware for your reader that has rip speed unlocked.
