  1. My brother in law and I both have identical DV cams and the same version of Pinnacle Studio. Whenever I capture DV footage it automatically splits the footage up int 'scenes' if you will wherever I paused and or stopped the camera.

When my brother in law tries it he either just gets one big file or only a couple of scenes.

Is there a reason for this?

    Thank you!

In Studio 8, go to the Set Up menu, then choose the Capture Source tab, then near the bottom of that tab there is a space that says "Scene detection during video capture". My guess is that you have your setting at "Automatically based on video content". You can also change the setting to not detect scenes, or to add a new scene every X-number of seconds (which is what I'm guessing your borther-in-law has his set at). There is also "Automatically based on shooting time and date" (which may be what yours is set to, as apposed to "Automatically based on video content".)

  3. I find that when I'm importing camera footage that I shot, it's best to let it mark scenes based on time/date. That way, every pause/record "push" results in a new scene. If you took one very long movie without ever pausing the recording, then you may wish to have it use "video content" instead.

What I do in these situations.... I sit in front of the PC (I need to see whole tape before editing anyway) and hit space bar button on keyboard to make extra scene
