  1. * * * Please note even though I mention re-authoring it is not ripping DVD from an original source so I hope this is in the right forum, thanks * * *

    Hello,

Let me explain what I want to do....I have a 60 min TV show recorded using a DVD recorder on a disc that is 5 VOB files and just under 4gb in size.

I want to reduce that and then add another hour long show to a single DVD-R with menu's etc using TMPG's DVD authoring tool..

What is the best way to go about this? Do I need to join the files, convert, downsample etc?

Thanks for reading, I hope sopmeone can offer me some help.

    Cheers!

  2. TMPGENC DVD Author will do all of this.

The short process is to use DVD Decrypter to rip the dvdr down to your harddrive. What you'll need to do is check the dvddecrypter option to rip as one big VOB file. Once it is on your hard drive, open TMPGENC DVD Author and do all of you cutting and everything (do the same thing with the to be recorded footage). Put it all together and then author and burn.

THE problem will be that the now combined file will be over the 4.3 gig limit. If that happens, you could use dvd shrink or other transcoder to shrink the video down to fit on one dvdr. I have tried to use dvdshrink to do this, however, it is never able to read the file. Hopefully, it will work for you.

Which version of Shrink did you use to try that. Version 3.0beta would not open DVD files created by DVD Author. Version 2.3 would, and I have no problem doing it now with 3.1.5 or 3.1.6.

  4. macleod....Thanks for the tip on DVD Decrypter. I wasn't even aware it could merge VOBs.

    Thanks!
