Hey I've got a question, might be a stupid one.......but hey I am a newbie.

Is it in anyway possible to turn a 400mb file into a smaller one, for example 300mb. The reason I'm asking: most TV eps you download are around 400mb in size. As result that 2 of them don't fit onto a CD-R (700mb)
Also when you convert them so you can create VCD's the files always get a little bit bigger making it even more difficult.

And 1 ep per CD is a little to expensive.

If it's not possible, would anyone know then if bigger CD-R's excist ?

    THANX, Hope someone can help.

PS and I know I should get a DVD writer to make this easier.

    Roma81,
If not mistaken, most standard CDs WILL hold 800 Mb worth of video information vice 700 Mb worth of data. It has to do with the way data is recorded on the CD.
So, in a very simplistic fashion, if your files are (assuming already in MPEG1 or 2 format) as you say 400 Mb then all that is needed to author and burn to CD. My favorite tool for putting VCD/SVCD to disc is VCDEasy.

You can fit 800 mb worth of VCD mpg as VCD on an 80 min CD-R. Only way to make an mpg smaller is to reencode audio and/or video at a lower bit rate, resulting in lower audio and/or video quality, partly caused by the lower bit rate, partly because each reencoding introduces a drop in quality.
There are both 90 and 99 min CD-R, but they require that your writer can write that much, and your reader/player can read that much. (It's out of the CD specs, but many readers/writers has no problem at least up to 90 min.)

If your files are AVI, another option would be to create an XCD, which can hold up to 800mb on a 700mb CD-R. This is possible thanks to the same mode2/CDXA burning mode as (S)VCD's The first thing you do is create an image with Mode 2 CD Maker and from there you can burn the image with Nero. In order to play your XCD's you will need to install the XCD filter, and associate DAT files with Media Player. Be advised that XCD's can only play on your PC though. You can find everything you need at this site including a tool that can convert your DAT files back to the original AVI.
