Pioneer A06D RW Problem

I have bought a Pioneer A06D burner. Everythingis working fine with the unit EXCEPT for DVD-RW's. If I try and burn with one of them NERO will say there is not enough room on the disc and ask for another. If I try and erase the disk NERO gets most of the way through and then says 'erase failed'! I have tried afew different brands of disc and all give the same problem. I have also tried other programs and they still give me the same issue.
Does anybody have any ideas?

if you've tried different media, different programs...could be the hardware. 1/10 manufactured products do have a defect sadley. id try updating the firmware first before taking it back though.
