    what programs handle the mp4 extension?

    I have VirtualDub, Vegas Video and Adobe Premiere
    They all can't edit

    You can create a fake avi with TMPGEnc and VFAPI converter that you can then open with Virtualdub. You'll need the Quicktime plugin for TMPGEnc along with VFAPI Reader Codec.
