Experts help required

Have backed up many many of my film DVDs using SmartRipper 2.41 and DVDx2.2 without any problems. Lately, however, some films will rip properly and the vobs will play ok but when trying to encode them they will not encode the first maybe 5 to 20 minutes. If I try to encode them without ripping them first some will be ok but with some DVDx will display a message saying that the DeSC key is missing. Any help gratefully accepted.
