  1. Hi,

I have a collection of VCD which I wanted to back them up on DVD

Bought DVD X Maker because of the guide here and encounter problem, I followed the guide DAT to Mpeg by program suggested and followed the guide but DVD X Maker turned out with a file larger than a DVD, ie unable to burn.

My original plan is to back up about 2-3 VCD based movie into one DVD but DVD X Maker seems to re-encode one VCD movie to fit into the DVD.

I then tested the trail version of Tmpgenc DVD Author and to my surprise it did the job just the way I wanted it , ie it only take up to about 1.2GB for one VCD movie.

My question here is what went wrong with DVD X Maker, I really wanted to use it since I have bought it and the store won't allow return of opened software.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. did you match DVD X Maker's default settings to your vcd's format prior to processing ? If not, check the app's helpfile for info...

  4. Another thing to look at -

Use Gspot or AviCodec freeware to get details on your source files. A VCD file meets MPEG-1 standards. You may have something else that is 'forcing' dvd x maker to re-encode ( not split) ..

  5. the file is 352x288 25fps PAL mpeg, Tmpgenc DVD Author has no problem with it, video no change only re-encoded sound from 44100 to 48000, tested file with a DVD-RW and it has no problem with my standalone.

I'll play with it for a while and if I can't find any solution, I may sell it at ebay and buy Tmpgenc DVD Author instead.
