WOW!!! Words can't express how great a movie it was. It was better than I went in there thinking it would be. One question to anyone who has seen it.
What was Satan holding at one point? It looked like a demon/baby that smiled at Jesus while he was being whipped. What was it?

I saw it Wednesday the first showing. I really loved it. Being Catholic, it really made me appreciate more what he went through just for us. Its a really powerful movie that got to me a couple of times (I'm not ashamed to admit that I cried).
I also don't know and would like to know who that baby/demon was.His name was MackemX
What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?

MY thoughts of the baby/demon:
1. Satan was mocking Jesus. He wanted to tell Jesus, Look I have my kid here in my arms and I'm protecting him. So where is your Father?
2. Satan wanted the demon to see Jesus being tortured and enjoy it.
3. Satan was telling JEsus to just leave and go into the arms of his Father, such as the child was doing.
4. The demon was the anti-christ. The only reason I say this is because it's what one of the other people we went with thought it was.

First of all let me tell you that I am not Jewish. It seems like all Jewish ppl hate it and all christians love it. I didn't like the movie even though I am christian.
The movie is 2 hours and it shows nothing of what kind person Jesus was. The whole movie is about a man getting beat up. It has nothing to do with Christinity either. I don't think that jesus was beat that much because no one would be able to survive that many wounds. This movie is relying on ppls love and compation for Jesus.

I didn't like the book so I don't think I'll see the movie.

Found this on a website:
Child of Evil
Description:
In the court of Pilate, as Jesus’ flesh is repeatedly torn with the sharp shards of the torturers’ whips, the black-robed being slinks through the crowd carrying an evil-looking child.*
Symbolism:
God sent his Son, Jesus, to become a member of the human race and to bear the penalty of death and damnation in humanity’s stead.* During Jesus’ time on earth, the Tempter continually sought to dissuade Jesus from going through with his Father’s plan.* Jesus had that choice.* When he was tortured, and even when he hung on the cross, Jesus could have called on heaven’s angels to rescue him.*
In the movie, when the Tempter sees Jesus submitting to the torturer’s whip, he parades in front of Jesus, carrying a child.* Gibson’s imagery likely refers to the verse in Genesis where God speaks of the enmity that would exist between the Evil Serpent’s offspring and the Messiah – who was the offspring of a human woman (Gen. 3:15). The evil child likely represents an Anti-Christ.*
Jesus would have understood the threat.* If Jesus willingly died as the Christ (the Messiah) the Evil One would give birth to Anti-Christ(s) – humans who would be filled with evil, and who would fight against the advance of Christ’s kingdom on earth.* It is as though the Tempter mocked, “Why bother with the suffering, Jesus?* If you go through with it, I’m going to increase the intensity of the fight.* Things will get worse.* I will come against you with everything I’ve got!”
But Jesus didn’t waver in his resolve.* He knew that his death and resurrection would ensure the Tempter’s defeat.* Though the battle between good and evil would continue for a time – the victory would be secured.

That's pretty good. Although I thought this one made a little more sense:
1. Satan was mocking Jesus. He wanted to tell Jesus, Look I have my kid here in my arms and I'm protecting him. So where is your Father? His name was MackemX
What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?

Saw it Sunday afternoon. One of the best movies I've ever seen. Rushed out to Wal-Mart after the movie and bought the soundtrack, which was every bit as good as the movie.
Saw it with a group of people that included Non-Denominationals, Lutherans, Baptists and Mormons. Sat right next to a Jewish couple. Nobody had anything negative to say about the re-enactment or the 'historical' accuracy.
Lots of people crying during the chastising (hell I almost did, that was unbelievably real) but nobody we saw walked out.
I'm not a practicing member of any particular religion. But this movie get two thumbs up in my book. I was a big fan of The Patriot and I think Mel Gibson one-up'd on this movie.

Devanshu,
I would say 'yes' on both counts. The Jewish couple sitting next to us 'enjoyed' it (I don't if 'enjoyed' is a word you could use in this context, but they had no qualms about the content or the historical interpretation) and said they would watch it again without reservation.

Mel Gibson is a major talent, and one both Americans and Aussies can take credit for since he was born in the states but grew up in Oz.
A major complaint about this movie was the amount of violence. But if you recall they complained the same way when Braveheart came out. :P Good thing they didn't emasculate that movie, or this movie, by softening it up for kiddie viewership. It would have taken away from the story. Christ's life had violence in it, and to sugar-coat it would do him and the viewers a disservice. You don't like a movie ....don't go see it, or don't buy the DVD ....

Damn straight!
There were kids at the showing we went to. The youngest one we figured was 8 or 9. One of them sobbed through most of the movie. My wife says, "What the hell is wrong with those parents bringing their young child to a movie like this?" I thought she was going to get up and bitch-slap somebody she was so frustrated.
"Well, this is the focal point of their moral existence, and if you want your kids to have an appreciation for the sacrifice he made, there's no use in 'sugar-coating' what he went through. Otherwise how can they truly appreciate it?"
No argument there, or from the guy in front of me.
I'd still wait until my kids were at least 13, though. The chastising was horrifying.

How would you like to have been the Roman Governor in this one?
* If I let Jesus walk free, the 'Temple-Types' will roit and Caesar will hang me,
* If I let them crucify Jesus, the 'Galilean-Types' will riot and Caesar will hang me,
* If I wash my hands of the situation, Claudia will make sure I'm not hanging, and I don't mean by a noose.
Talk about a no-win situation.
He must have felt some relief when Jesus told him the onus is on those who delivered Him at his feet. That gave him the political 'Out' he needed.

I totally agree about the amount of violence. It seems with all the other Jesus movies that I've seen in church at it was implied it was bad. You see Jesus carrying a cross and has a little bit of blood from the crown of thorns, but that was it. They made it seem like Jesus didn't go through a whole lot, when in fact he was tortured. I'm happy that the movie was not toned down becaude it would have down-played the sacrifice Jesus made for us.
Plus I think movies such as Black Hawk Down or Saving Private Ryan or Schindler's List were bloodier than this movie.
