  1. If the bitrate for the dvd is over 10000 will this be a problem

Sometimes when authoring a dvd in tmpgenc dvd author i get a message saying i am creating an out of sync dvd, because the bitrate is too high, will this be a problem when playing on dvd standalones. I have a matsui 110 that is really old and their are no problems playing them on it, but on a mates dvd player it just stops near the end of the film, although i used different discs and think this may be the problem.

I have been converting the avis in dvd2svcd and set the max bitrate at 9000 and max avg at 6000. So with an audio stream at 384 would the max bitrate in total be 9384cos i cant understand how with this setup i am getting dvds with over 10000 for the bitrate.

    thanks for any help

Hit ignore. It's a flaw of the program. It tells me that on VCD conversions sometimes.

Are you using CCE to do the encoding in DVD2SVCD? I don't know what parameters DVD2svcd uses, or which ones it lets you adjust, but one way or another if the DVD compliant option in CCE is checked than it sets the nominal bitrate flag in the video stream to 9.8Mbits. Well, it at least does this with some versions of CCE. Anyway the result is that most DVD authoring programs will complain that the bitrate is too high regardless of what bitrates you actually encode with. So like Lordsmurf said, if you are certain your bitrates are in fact compliant, then you can just ignore this warning. If possible, disable the DVD Compliant option in CCE via DVD2SVCD. There is really no reason to use this under most circumstances.

  4. Yeah dvd compliant is ticked and i am using CCE with dvd2svcd.

The video stream comes out at 9800kbps and the audio is never higher than 384kbps, i generally just leave the audio set to this rate even if the source is less, i know it doesn't improve the quality but i assume that it doesn't affect the final dvd.

So the combined bitrate is 10184, is this out of standard, i checked my discs on my friends dvd player which use the ritek G04 dye and they play fine, i think it was just a disc issue, but it always pays to cover all angles.

The rate you listed is in fact barely higher than what the DVD standarrd supports, but like I said this is not the actual bitrate of your movie. The bitrate flag is getting tagged as 9800kbits because you have the DVD compliant option checked in CCE. Just uncheck it, there is no reason to use this option.

The DVD compliant option in CCE is really just a failsafe. If your input is a non compliant resolution it automatically just resizes it to a dvd compliant one according to your fps. (ex: 25fps would output 720x576, 29.97fps would output 720x480.) For whatever reason it also sets the nomimal bitrate flag to 9800kbits, which does absolutely nothing for compatibility, yet makes the total bitrate appear as if it is actually much higher than it really is. Just don't use this option and your warnings will go away. Its a completely useless function.
