  1. I have encoded 100s of avi's and now i cannot get these 2 particular movies to encode. The Missing and The Underground Comedy Movie. Both are ntsc film 23.976 fps. After i have select the video and the audio, which is resampled to 44100 as a wav, i move to source range and the video window is greyed out. I tried to use the unlock template in the extra template folder and no help. The movies play fine with WMP. Any ideas would be helpful. I am pretty sure i have all the codecs installed on my pc because the movies play on WMP. Thankyou in advance, lowestleveler

  2. You seemed to be well versed in the art of conversion and I am not sure if I am able to help, but, here goes. Have you used Gspot to identify the codec? From you post, I gather the problem lies with the codecs and Gspot might be able to give you a clue to that. In any case, a upgrade to the latest version of the codec might help.

  3. I downloaded Gspot and identified the codec as 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3. It said i had 3 compatible codecs installed in the stat box. Great file info. Maybe i was trying to encode as a svcd instead of a vcd. Mpeg 1 is vcd isn't it? Thankyou for your info, Lowestleveler :P

  4. Still have the same problem. Tell me about how to check the codec for the movie you are encoding. Do you have to load the codec into tmpegnc in order for tmpegnc to recognize it or will Tmpeg use the codecs loaded on my pc? Later Lowestleveler

This information is the type of audio your file has, not the video. When you open you file with G-spot in the upper right corner it should tell you which 4cc is used. This will tell you which codec your file uses.

  6. I checked the gspot again and at the 4cc it reads XVID/yv12. The stat reads 2 compatible codecs installed. Can you use tmegnc to transcode a xvid movie to an mpg? Most of the AVI's i have encoded were divX. This might be my 1st Xvid. Thanks again for your info. Later Lowestleveler

You can encode an Xvid movie with TMPGEnc, yes. You should probably install FFDSHOW first just to make sure that TMPGEnc is able to read your movie correctly. Also, you should use a wav file as the audio source because TMPGEnc sometimes has trouble reading the audio in Xvid movies. To create a wav file, open your movie with Virtualdub, ignore the initial audio error if you receive it and go to the audio menu, select "Full Processing Mode", go to file and select "Save WAV" and select a file name. This will create a wav file that will probably be twice the size of your movie but it will allow TMPGEnc to read the audio easier because you are using an uncompressed source versus the original mp3 audio. Good luck.

  8. Hey teegee420,
I am humbled by your intellect! You were correct. I installed the ffdshow codec and Tmpegnc was able to read and encode to a mpg. I use a program called goldwave to extract the audio from my movies. It does 2 chanel stereo and 5 channel AC3 audio. As a matter of fact I got the tutorial to encode movies from this guide: http://www.gkhull.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/SVCDGuide/GaryFoolproofAVItoSVCDGuide.pdf It has worked beautifully until now, but you have saved the day. I am so thankful for your expertise and knowledge. If there is anything i can help you with don't hesitate to ask, Thanks again, Lowestleveler@yahoo.com

You're welcome, and thanks for the kind words but let's take a moment to talk about my "intellect". I've been playing around with digital video for a few years and you wouldn't believe some of the stupid crap I have done along the way. I've learned through trial and error but I sure as hell wish I had discovered this forum in the beginning. Since joining late last year I can't even tell you how much I have learned. There are plenty of people on this board that know far more than I. The best advice I can give someone just getting into the hobby is to read this forum as much as possible. Even if you're not even having any problems. There's a wealth of knowledge here if you are willing to take the time to reveiew it.

    Cheers

  10. This is probably the ultimate video and audio info mecca. I too have made my share of frisbee and coasters. Here is another good website for more PAL movies editing and creating KVCD's. http://www.weethet.com
