Dr. Divx can convert to Divx and both TMPGEnc and Canopus Procoder can convert to mpeg.

Use Intervideo WinDVD Creator 2 ... use file output option ....

and choose HQ setting ... 3 choices of audio ... AC-3 ... LPCM or Mpeg audio. Result will be a large nicely done DVD Compliant Mpg 2 Video.

I convert WMV videos with it all the time.

ok....TMPGEnc will work fine for converting both asf and wmv, at least it does for me

first, you need to have DirectX8.1 or later installed.

Then you need Windows Media Player 9 installed, or if you don't want to upgrade to that player (I still use 6.4 and WMP Classic), you need to install the Windows Media Series 9 Runtime files.

a quick search of google will yield plenty of download locations, or just go to Microsoft and search there

WMV and ASF are pretty much the same thing. Did you install Dirext X yet? Try opening the ASF in TMPGEnc again. If it doesn't work right away, try raising the Directshow Multimedia File Reader priority by going to Options>Environmental Settings>VFAPI Plugin.

Follow the menu steps that I repeated in my last post and then right click "Directshow Multimedia File Reader" and select "Higher Priority". Change the value to 1 or 2. After that try opening the ASF again.

Try installing Windows Media Series 9 Runtime Files, then give TMPGEnc another go. If that doesn't work, best of luck to you because I'm fresh out of ideas.
