    Howdy All,

A while back I captured a bunch of clips of our baseball teams run to the LL world series last summer using ShowBiz that came with my burner. These are already in MPEG format, which MPEG format I don't know as it just says "type of file is mpeg" when I check the properties. I have imported these clips into Video Studio 7 and but when I go to play the "project" instead of the "Clip" format it wants to render the project/clips?? Is this normal? Should I just do my editing and then let it render the whole project? I've read Jerry's guide on capturing DV.AVI and editing and then importing the resulting AVI project into the MPEG format setup and everything works just fine right through to the finished project. What I was wondering is, do I have to start somewhere else in the guide if I already have MPEG clips and if so where would I start as I still have editing to do before it is ready to be burned? These are the project properties that I imported the clips into:

    NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
    MPEG files
    24 Bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
    Field Order A
    (DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8264 kbps)
    LPCM Audio, 48 KHz, Stereo

I don't want to re capture all this video again unless absolutley necessary as it took me a long time to capture an hours worth of clips out of 4 hrs of video. I'm sure this can be done I just need a little tutoring Can anyone help me out on this one?

    Thanks,
    Max

  2. The PROJECT PROPERTIES of Ulead VideoStudio 7.01 should usually be adusted to precisely match the properties of the source.

You can determine the properties of your source clips by right-clicking on them.

Then click PROPERTIES to obtain the read-out.

After you know the properties of your source, simply click FILE > PROJECT PROPERTIES.

Then select MPEG FILES in the EDIT FILE FORMAT drop down list.

    Then click the EDIT button;

Then click the GENERAL and COMPRESSION tabs and select project settings that match the properties of your source video.

This will activate Ulead's Smart Render technology - and re-encoding of your video will be avoided.

    Specialist,

Okay here's the goods on what I found.

This is the way my origional project properties were set.

    NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
    MPEG files
    24 Bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
    Field Order A
    (DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8264 kbps)
    LPCM Audio, 48 KHz, Stereo

Here's what I found about the mpegs in the storyline when I right click/properties

    Video
    Format:24 Bits [720x480]
NTSC DVD, Field A 8000 kbps
    Compression ratio:29%
    Frame Rate: 29.97 Frames/sec

    Audio
Format: Audio MPEG Layer 2 Files
    Attributes: 48000Hz, 16 Bit Stereo

This is what I switched the project properties to:

    NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
    MPEG files
    24 Bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
    Field Order A
    (DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
    Audio data rate: 224 kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Stereo

So I did have to make a couple changes, but I'm finding that when I try to play the project it still wants to render Maybe I should just do all the editing I want and then let it render to the origional settings for DVD format and let it go. Just wondering why it still wants to render even though the settings seem to match at least what I'm seeing. Maybe I'm not interpreting correctly. What do you see
    Thanks,
    Max
