  1. Hi all,

I've just bought a MSI N5600 Ultra 128mg video in/out grafics card to replace my old WinTV card to capture my vhs tapes & convert them to DVD.

Reaon I bought this card was that I couldnt cap very successfully using the wintv card, I could get a very bad picture quality (in colour) but no audio.

The problem I'm having now is that I have no problems capping both video & audio, but the video capture is black & white. Both my vcr & my vhs tapes are all PAL. I have this problem with the pre-bundled software (intervideo windvd creator plus & also virualdub.

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions on how I can overcome this. There's seems to be plenty of posts about conversion between NTSC & PAL in black & white but nothing when both the vhs tape & source are the same standard.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

And the program that is capturing the video is set to PAL as well? No mention of it in your post.
    Hello.

  3. Hi,

Yes, it's also set to Pal_I which I believe is the correct setting for the UK (according to other posts I've been reading here).

Are you capturing via an S-VHS cable by any chance?
I tried this with a scart adapter and my captures were B&W.
    Just a thought.

  5. At first I was using S-Video via a Scart adapter, but than changed it to comopsite cable. Still the same result - apart from when I use composite cable there's vertical lines across the screen. I think that if I could get the capture in colour, it wouldn't be as noticable & you'd eventually get used to it.

Unfortunately my VHS recorder doesn't have AVI sockets

  6. I could have swore I read something that said there was some type of protection and that when it's connected to a capturing device it turns it into b&w... I can't remember the name of it. Maybe you need something to bypass that? Hell, I don't know but maybe if this exists this can get you started in the right direction.

  7. I had a similar problem where it turned out that I had a bent pin on my s-video cable... since you said the problem persists even with a composite cable, it sounds like you have some other issue. Perhaps MACROVISION protection is the problem? Since you don't mention it, perhaps you are unaware of it. Or is it that PAL doesn't have this protection?

I am having the same problem as you, but for me it is only with S-Video, which is why i have to cpture VHS using Composite. But you have the problem with both so I dont know.

Im using a Scart adapter from the VHS to ATI-All in wonder 128 rage Pro.

Hope you post back when you solve it. VEry annoying isn`t it.

    Good luck.
