  1. Hi,

I need help on converting what's on a DVD to .mpeg file (extention).

I have a 16 movie clips of mpeg files and I put these in TMPEGEnc DVD Author to author a movie DVD. After successfully authoring a DVD, I deleted those movie clips in mpg. Now I want to get those movie clips back in their original form (mpg). How do I do this from an already made DVD?

What should I do? Or what programs do this kind of converting?
Do I have to rip the DVD to video_ts and audio_ts files using DVD Decripter, if so how do I convert from there with with video.bup and video_ts.ifo files back to mpeg files.

Is there a better way to do this or direct way from a DVD to mpeg files?

    thanks.

  2. burn the dvd to your hard drive the open the VOB files from the VIDEO_TS folder in TMPGEnc and convert to mpeg. really simple you shouldnt have any problems

    hope that helps

  3. Two things to take into consideration with this method:
    1) You will need the TMPGEnc MPEG2 Plugin to import the VOBs.
    2) If you authored your DVD with AC3 audio, you will also need to deal with it (through plug-in or external decoder).

VOBrator or VOBedit will allow you to extract m2v from your disk (sound as well). Don't recall which one exacly but it will enable you to save video and audio streams separately (extract stream) within few minutes without reencoding.

Ok, I currently have TMPGEnc DVD Author (retail version). Do I need to download this MPEG2 plug-in? How do I know that I already have or not have this plug-in installed?

What does this plug-in do? Does it help me extract the VOBs into mpeg files? Probably a dumb question but I've never used this feature (MPEG2 plug-in) of TDA, so not sure what to do with it.

And yes it happens that this is an AC3 audio. How do I convert AC3 audio from VOBs files to video+AC3 audio in mpeg file? In other words, if the DVD has AC3 audio, how do I convert the VOBs to become mpeg file with AC3 sound? Any good program for this kind of conversion?

    Thanks GbMedusa.

I've checked out these 2 programs and they seem like doing the same job. So which one is better than the other? And when I extract audio and video separately like that, how do I combine video and audio together?

Is there a chance of video and audio not in sync when you combine them?
What program is good for combining video and audio without having a sync problem?

I have AC3 audio, so I'm not sure what programs would join video with AC3 without causing problem.

    Thanks for the advice.

You can use TMPGEnc to demux (separate) or mux files (combine). This is a standard process and after combining they should be in sync. You need to experiment with both (they will also mux files for you). Every program has it's own angle so both are useful. You need to do some experimenting to know their functionality.
