    I'm a newbie to this.

I've managed to get the capture bit down, but I'm having real problems with conversion.

I don't have a clue where to start.

    For example
What is frameserving & how do I work it?
How do I get AVISYNTH to work?
What's the best settings for conversion from 720x576 to put on a DVD-R?

The programs I'm using are virtualdub, and a trial copy of CCE SP, and TMPGENC to author my DVD.
I've looked through the guides and while they are helpful, most are contradictory, introduce unknown phrases with out explanation of what they mean, and have left me more confused than when I started.

What i'm looking for is a web page or a guide that will help me through conversion and authoring step by step without introducing stuff it doesn't explain.

Cheers for any help, I know I need it.

Well you do have a painful path to follow.
first up you need to split the sound. Go get ffmpeggui02c.zip. yea, i know it sounds like bollocks as does most of these apps but there you go.
In there use the setting mp2 and keep this with your new download.avi

Once done, load both files ya AVI and ya sondfile.mp2 into TMPGnc try the wizard first.
If you see the wizz wants to make a file thats too big (just under 4.5 gig is ok) Ignore all the warnings you might get, that too is shite and has no purpose. All on this site will tell ya the wizz is shite but I've had some ok results with it but thats far from 100%

    Use this link. http://dvd-hq.info/Compression.html
lossa good stuff there and under utillities use the calculator. I do all the time. It's the only one I've seen that has the GOP settings for you to. I make life much easier.
    Start there anyway. Enjoy !

  3. Converting and encoding can be tough, but there are many apps that make it pretty easy once you get a system that works and can repreat the process again and again.

What kind of file is your capture, AVI? VOB? Depending on the file type, frameserving might not be needed. TMPGEnc can load your AVI directly and begin encoding as long as there are no issues that need to be fixed like bad frames. If it's a VOB file, DVD2AVI can frameserve the data to TMPGEnc.

If you describe your issues and process thus far in more detail I'm sure there will be plenty of people with advice for you.

I Managed to capture, convert, author and burn a DVD.

I captured with VirtualVCR, edited and output new AVI and wav files with VirtualDUB.

Convert the AVI video only with CCE SP, and the Audio with ffmpeggui.

Author and burn with TMPGenc, and all seems to work.
I have a small problem with audio sync, but hopefully I can work that out.
