Except that lots of programs cannot use type-1.

  2. I've seen this problem more times than I'd like also. I'm using a Sony TRV330 (D8) to do my captures via the passthru. I solve the problem by saving the audio as a wave by using Full Processing Mode in Virtualdub.

Then if I import that wave into Premiere Pro, I can stretch or shrink the audio to match the video by right-clicking the audio track straight from the timeline.

This has worked for me so far, the only inconvenience is waiting for VDub to process the audio.

It's not something stupid like audio at 32Khz is it ?
My neighbor has a camera that likes to record audio at 32K.

what happens if you record to tape and transfer that ?

The Sony Camcorders (I don't know about others) have two audio formats: 32K @ 12 bits or 48K @ 16 bits.

The problem occurs with both formats in type-2 DV-AVI files. I believe that the reason that this does NOT happen with type-1 files it that the video and audio are in the same stream. With type-2 there is a separate audio stream from the video/audio stream.

Transferring to tape would work, but it's a huge pain in the ass. It's easier to just fix it on the hard drive after the download ("capture"). A good example of the pain is when you want to capture a movie from VHS. The movie might be over 2 hours and that would be 3 tapes.

  5. GuyRiley,

Do you know of any other programs that can stretch/shrink the audio to match the video size?

Can I get some suggestions from people of how to fix this problem please?

Typical example of an answer given but not wanted to be tried or just plain ignored.

I'm refering to another post I made here along with similiar posts I've made concerning audio sync.
