I just got my brand new Wintv pvr 350. It works, the software works, and I can capture fine from the hauppauge software. Everytime I try to download any software, virtual dub, freevcr, it says that the capture card cannot be detected. What is wrong. I have been trying to fix it forever.

I have the same problem, none of the software I tried (virtualdubmod, wmp) can capture from my hauppauge pvr 350. They all say there is no driver available. Works fine with the software that came with it (crappy stuff though...).
Anybody any ideas how to solve this problem ?
I would very much prefer to capture in virtualdub because of the avaiable filters.
I noticed that the german webpage (http://hauppage.de) has newer drivers than the english webpages (http://hauppauge.co.uk / .com) but not sure if it would be ok to use them (I speak german, but would the software like to be updated with a german version?).Stef -
The WinTV PVR-250 only captures realtime mpeg via it's hardware encoder chip (ie. there's no way to use it to capture AVI's with a user-selected codec) and can only be used with software specifically designed for it (such as the WinTV app that comes with it). As a result, you can't use virtualdub, etc. with it. I would assume the same is true for the 350.
I never had much trouble with the supplied software- It lets you pick from common resolutions, customize audio and video bitrates, etc.... just about all you'd really need in a standard mpeg capture. -
Apparently the UK version of the 250 doesn't do hardware encoding, that's what the box said in the shop anyway, so I bought the 350. But I kbow the US version does hardware encoding (strange, maybe the box has the wrong printing on it in the UK?)
Never mind, I am happy with the 350 but capturing old tapes from my VCR doesn't give me good mpg's. The picture has lines and "blobs" and the software that comes with the card doesn't provide any filters for that.
Another major problem is, that the tapes are recorded in 16:9, so when I capture them from my VCR I end up with the wrong ratio (4:3) and everything looks squished. Does anbody know how to change that ?
I have looked at the software options but can't find anywhere to change it. Also read the manual and don't seem to find any options described for that at all.
Any help appreciated.Stef -
All WinTV-PVR 250, 350 and USB2 are Hardware MPEG2 Encoder both NTSC and PAL sound like sale guy sucker you or he dosen't know jack sh@t.
There is no real 16:9 frames on DVD there all 4:3 even tapes to you have do some patching to turn 4:3 into 16:9.
The only way get REAL 16:9 is with HDTV -
It was the sale guy who told me.... well, they never really know what they are talking about, do they ?
Sorry, don't know much about aspect ratios, just know that the tape capture in TV2000 application looks wrong and I have no idea how to change it. I tried all the different settings on the VCR but that didn't help.Stef -
