Hi, I just burnt this dvd. img file onto an orange bulkpaq at 2x , it plays fine in my dvd player, but for some reason the last few minutes don't play correctly, theres some distortion and pixelation. I dont know why this is, but I noticed that pretty much every dvd with a movie on it that is bought from a store is mirrored on the underside, could this possibly be the reason, since the bulkpaq disc has a purple dye

I'd appreciate any help,

Have you tried burning it again? How much of the disc is being used? Could be if you're going right to the edge of the disc that the player is having problems with it. Could also be bad media. You should try burning the same material on a different brand DVD media and try again. if it still happens, then you can rule out bad media.

It is a common problem on the inexpensive DVD±Rs. A workaround is to use DVD Shrink to shrink the amount of space the DVD takes up so it will play normally before it gets to poorer quality spot (about 75% of the maximum storage).

Of course, a more permanent fix is to buy better quality discs. Use the Media section at left as a basic guide.

'Mirrored' DVD's (Commercial movies) are pressed similar to a record. 'Dyed' DVD's are recordable and are burned. There are a lot of reasons you may have problems at the end of your video. Have you tried different media? It may also help to reduce the length of your video if you are burning close to the maximum capacity of the DVD. Try one at say, 4GB. There are plenty of threads on this site that talk about the problem you are having.

Hi again, thanks for responding guys, OK, so I'm gonna try using some different media, But also you mentioned that the DVD .img file can be reduced in size using DVDShrink. The DVD img in my case is 4.22Gb, so I guess it is taking up most of the DVD-r, but would shrinking the image have a negative impact on the final video, i.e will the quality of the video not be as good as it would be in it's full size?

That's my 1st question, 2nd is does any1 have any recommendations about which high quality dvd-r media to use for burning an image file?

You don't really want to ask that. You'll get almost as many different answers as there are replies. Every burner has its own preferences. Experimentation is the only reliable way to know. Try buying 5-packs of several different brands and see which works.

I personally use RitekG04 media, but I have read about some issues that some folks have had with them here recently. I don't know about that, I've burned over 500 DVDs (mostly original work, not backups) and I've never had a problem with the RitekG04 media.

I have read that Fuji (made in Japan, not Taiwan), apple, and a few others are good as well.

Your issue is media related and you are using pretty cheap media.

That's not true in this case. I agree that some burners don't like certain media but each burner has its own preferences?? Your problem is not in the burning process it is in the reading process of your stand alone DVD player that's where the DVD is going wrong.

Buy better media, that will solve your problem. Buying 5 packs at random will likely get more expensive and for all those discs that still had the problems, you would have 4 brand new...useless...DVDs left over.

I have burned the RitekG04 discs clear out to the edge several times without problem. I'm talking an image file that was 4,669,000,000 bytes...it fit and it plays just fine.
