Hi,
I just bought this external DVD Re-Writer today and have tried using both Nero 6 and Roxio to copy DVD's or to create DVD's to burn - but everytime I try it says the disc is not big enough. How can that be as I am using a DVD-R which says has 4.7gb of stargae space. What am I doing wrong?
HELP!!
Rick

What are you doing before you try to burn.
Burning is just the final process.
You cannot do a straight copy of a DVD unless it is already on a DVD-R.
You need to explain more. -
I am using Nero 6 and have added all the video files to the list then I hit burn and then it says there is no room - but on the screen before the burn stage it says everything is ok.

well it seems your trying to copy everything on the disc. And when your doing that, the file size is too big to copy onto the dvd-r. What you should do is use a program like DVD Shink to basically.
I use a one touch process. I use AutoShinkISO which both uses DVDDecryptor and DVD Shink 3.1. What's good about DVD Shink is that you can take out the extras that not needed and are causing the dvd size to be to big. All you probably need is just the movie track itself and 2.1/5.1 audio. If you have to you can compress the dvd more to make it's size smaller. In DVD Shink you want it to be somwhere above 75% compression to have the best video quality you can get. -
The thing is I was trying to burn a mpeg file which before conversion was only 20 megs in size and that would even fit on the DVD-R!

First of all, I would study the guides on this site. What interface does your external burner use? Firewire, USB? What software did you use to make your MPG? TMPGEnc and other encoders create MPG's that are DVD compatible. What did you author with? Again TMPGEnc author can produce a proper DVD format. If you only have a 20MB file, why put it on a DVD?

I know a lot of users, including me, who have had problems with roxio or nero if they are BOTH on the same computer. I would recommend uninstalling both and then reinstalling one (Nero recommended) and then trying it. You could also experiment by burning a data disc. Try backing up you mp3 files or something. Good luck
