    m using a mac osx 10.2.8 and videolan

    i know for windows there is a new codec for xvid

    anyone knows some for mac osx
    \
    the newest movies plays jerky in all players inc vlc (mast an comm)

    is it possible to change the codec with ffmpegx that i can play it smootly

    This is a decoder problem. If you playback using the xvid decoder instead of vlc's ffmpeg decoder, they will be smooth.

    This is because ffmpeg has trouble decoding movies that are encoded with 'packed bitstream' and have 2 or more sequential bframes, which are xvid defaults now.

    This problem is fixed in ffmpeg cvs, you have to either wait for vlc to update their libraries or compile it in yourself.
