  1. Hello all,

I've been having a strange problem with encore (at least I think it's encore). After burning a project to disc it plays fine on the set top player BUT when I press STOP on the remote control and try to press play again it doesn't play at all. I have to eject the dvd and re-insert and it then proceeds to autoplay. I've burnt it using nero and dvdwriter and I still have the same problem so I assume it's encore (I've tested DVDs authored in TMPGEncDVDAuthor and stoping and playing works fine).

The first play video is mpeg2 created from cleaner and the subsequent videos are mpeg2 files created with my hardware encoder. I didn't think it would be necessary to transcode the videos in encore. Besides when I tried to transcode, Encore would just suddenly shut down without warning at seemingly random times.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

  2. First thing you should do is download the update from the Adobe website. It cleans up a lot of the stability issues.

Now you need to get your "first play" issue sorted out. I've been there and done that, and the fix is simple (it absolutely drove me nuts until I figured it out).

By the way- I'd recommend the Adobe forums over this one for Adobe-specific problems.

The solution is to create you timelines in REVERSE. Sounds silly, I know. Usually when you author a DVD you build your menu, set up your buttons, etc., import all your clips (audio and video), and then start linking buttons to the clips. As you know, each time you link a button to a video clip a new timeline is created in the project window as an asset. Then (if the file isn't already multiplexed), you drag the corresponding audio file into the timeline.

create your timelines in the reverse order in which you want them to appear. In other words, the "first play" clip should be the last one for which a timeline is created.

If you screw up this order, you'll have a disc that just stops and starts in random places and might have to be removed to see the menus, etc.

This is a silly way of authoring a DVD, but that is the way Encore is set up. Search for more info and clearer details on the Adobe forums. The answer is there a hundred times

Good luck! By the way- stick with Encore. You'll be very glad you did once you figure out how it works.[/i]

  3. I created the firstplay timeline last by deleting it and then recreating it. All other videos play in the order in which the user decides so there is no predefined order of play. I burnt the DVD and still have the same problem. When I press stop on the DVD player and then try to press play it won't play and I have to eject the DVD and reinsert. What am I doing wrong!!??

Should we assume that in Encore DVD you assign a function to the stop command? If so, what is the command you assigned?

As far as I know you cannot assign a function for the stop command. I assume this can be done with professional programs like maestro and scenarist but encore is pretty simplistic compared to these programs.

All I want to do is be able to stop (as in press stop on the dvd player twice...not once which simply resumes upon pressing play) and then press play to start the dvd from the beginning. I mean either I'm missing something really obvious or this is an inherent fault in the program because it can't be that hard. I would change authoring programs but I don't have the time to re-author so I need to get this working.

I've been reading some of the adobe forum for encore and I'm shocked to see that almost all comments are negative. Adobe have released a really dodgy product which is suprising considering how good their other software packages are.

does anyone come to a forum just to say, "hooray! I found the perfect software!" Nope...just look at any specialized forum and the majority of the posts are complaints or questions. That what user forums are for!

I must disagree... Encore is not simplistic, and I assure you anything you would want to do can be done. There is definitely a learning curve, but it's relatively simple.

For what its worth, every disc I've authored with Encore can be resumed where it left off after pressing stop once, or from the beginning after pressing it twice.

Again, your timelines are probably not in the correct order with the menu and first play video. Keep at it and good luck.

My mistake, I meant End Action settings. I believe you can set an overide function. I am not sure if this would achiev your purpose but I would give it a try.
