  1. why is it that when i come to extract the file from a .tar file that winrar comes up with the file being corrupt. i know what your going to say that its because the file IS corrupt , but they are not.

could it have something to do with the codecs used or is it totaly unrelated?

i manage to extract it into the parts but when i try to get the .bin files extracted thats when the trouble starts. :-x

yes i am quite new to this but from what i have heard i shouldn't be having this sort of problem. any ideas or advice?????? or do you know where i can find the information needed, on an earlier post as i have looked but could not find it.

At what point are you receiving the error? Is it when you try to extract all of the files from the tar, or is it when you extract the bin and cue from the rar(r01,ro2 etc.)? Once you have extracted everything from the tar there should be a .sfv file. If you don't have a sfv checker installed you can get one here. The purpose of the sfv file is to determine if any of the files are corrupted. You either have an incomplete tar file, a missing rar file or a corrupted rar file. Either way you look at it the first error you got is probably correct.

If win rar is comming up with croupt file then it IS no matter what other people tell you. Dosent matter if they have the file and its OK you have it and it isnt. Try downloading it again from scratch. These things happen from time to time.
I used to get croupt file quite often but others didnt, turned out to be a problem with my PC's ip's some how...(long story)

Get the sfv checker and hope there is a sfv file in it somewhere to check. If there isnt then you could try repair option but its a long shot as not many people bother with selecting this when creating rars's...

  4. thanks for the advice it seems you were right i d/l another file and it worked ok.

iooi could you give me details of the problems with your computer problem with the ip as i have had abit of trouble with ip addresses when connecting saying that i have an invalid ip address. hasn't happened lately though.

also if you can give me advice on another problem i would really appreciate it. -

i am having problems with my emule program. i start the program up and it starts with an invalid server address and that i need to update it.

i do this but it makes no difference, the connections all come back as 'server appears dead ' for every connection.
i thought the program may be corrupt and so i removed it and downloaded emule again and installed it. hey presto it still comes up with the exact same problem!!

it seems to have started when i changed from a modem connection to a router, so i re-installed the modem but the problem was still there.
i am now back on the router connection.

is there any chance you could help me please!!!!

  5. Sorry i cant help you on the emule problem Never used it.
On the ips it was a case of i have 2 pc's networked if i downloaded a file using pc1 and saved to pc1 it would be croupt but if i saved to pc2 it was Ok, same in reverse as well use pc2 save to pc2 that it was OK save to pc1 and croupt....Tried all the logical things like swopping cables, new cables still the same. Altered pc1's ip and it was Ok... Weird or what. Happened a couple of times but has been OK for a long time now.
Have also heard of extra long round ide cables causing croupt files as well.
