Hi
I've purchased a Sony DRU-510A about a week ago and updated its firmware to 1.0f (the latest).
I authored a DVD from an mpg file using Tmpgenc DVD auth.
when I try to burn it to a DVD+RW disc (TDK 4x, [RicohJPN]) there's no problem. burn process successfullty finishs.
But when I try to burn a DVD-R media with same files, it fails (both simulation and real) at non specific position on disc. e.g. 26% 51% 48% 70% ...., this problem occurs with Nero, Record now DX, and DVD decrypter (burning image file created by nero). they all fail to burn. but the DVD writing tool of TMPGEnc burns that disc successfully without any problem!
I also tried to simulate a DVD/ISO job, but it sucked too.
I mention it again I have no problem with DVD+/-RWs.
I've ruined some dvd-r media these days
Is this related to media which I use, or I should do something about my Burner or Burning Utility?
I'm so confused.
your help is appreciated in advance
I attach the Log file here , note that I'm using Intel apllication accelerator thus dma settings in this file could be false

try using another brand of -r's... ritek G04's have a good rep.

I've bought a TDK DVD-R 4x today, I want to try this one today. the +RW which I tried before was TDK [Ricohjpn] and the result was good. I hope this one would be a ricohjpn.
thanks.[/quote] -
maybe it's the burner.....a lot of people have problems with Sony.....and they keep on saying that the media is the problems and you should use qualified only.......BS.
my nec burn everything...... -
AN31...hmmm...sounds like Memorex. If so, the Sony won't burn those. That drive has got to be the pickiest yet. My Pioneer A05 and LG 4040b burn them no problem (at least AF1 Memorex) without skips and freezes. I just did over 25 in the past week with no errors...

Sony DRU-510A, 1.0f firmware, CloneDVD
I also have a Sony 510 - the current firmware is 1.0f.
I also ran into a problem burning dvd-r media - Sony dvd-r media, would you believe. For all you Memorex bashers - Memorex dvd-r media works just fine on this burner.
Here's the Sony 510 story . . .
As best I can determine from a document I got off the Sony web site, burn speeds with this burner are controlled by the firmware, even overriding whatever settings you might have in the external program. Sony offers a DSS module which can view and modify the defaulted burn speeds in the firmware. This drives comes preset for "automatic". The defaulted burn speed for dvd-r media in "automatic" is 4x. I downloaded and ran "DVDIdentifier" and learned that the Sony media I was having trouble with is actually 1x(2x) media.
I ran the Sony DSS module - and changed the drive setting to "Silent" (think "slow") - which changes the defaulted burn speed for dvd-r media to 2x. Now the Sony media burns just fine.
Of course it would be better if the firmware checked the max burn speed of the media and adjusted itself accordingly - but that doesn't seem to be the case here.
I suggest any of you having problems with the 510a ruining burns should download a program to check the speed rating of your media - and also go to the Sony web-site and grab the DSS speed control module - and match your firmware default speeds to the media speed rating. I plan to leave my drive set for "silent" until I am using 4x or higher rated media 100% of the time. -
the media, which failed was 4x (dvd identifier).
I think these TDKs are the best.
TDK DVD-R [TYG01]
TDK DVD+R [RICOHJPN]
the only original media I could find.
